Hi... I saw your post and thought for a second I wrote it.
I don’t have a date for mine yet though but same story... mega enlarged uterus with multiple large fibroids causing pressure on other organs mainly bladder. I’m looking forward to being able to pass urine without forcing it out. I suspect I’ll be going for mine in August or September. Large vertical incision and they are taking everything! Will be interested to see how you do with recovery as the doctors have really put the fear into me. Wishing you all the best!

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy (TAH) scheduled for 6/3 what am I in for?

ToniaH,
Hello! I had a SAH, one ovary removed and both tubes removed six weeks ago. Like you, I had an enlarged and distorted uterus with fibroids. One ovary had an endometrioma cyst, so it was removed. I was very anxious the morning of surgery (I threw up in the prep room) but everyone in the hospital took such good care of me. I look back to the hospital stay as all positive. In the next few days before your surgery, prepare your “space.” The area where you will be resting for the next several weeks. In my case, a room with a recliner, television, books, bottled water (enough for 2 weeks so I don’t have to go down stairs a lot to the kitchen), crackers, pillows and blankets, pad of paper to record when you took medications. Sleep maybe choppy for a while, so I kept my iPad handy with some games downloaded and a link to Hystersisters.
I did not have any major pain, but I was a bit sore. Ibuprofen was all I needed to help with any aches. I found I felt pretty good after week 2, but don’t be fooled! I had to remind myself this was a major surgery and you only get one chance to heal properly. Anyhow, the fatigue wall usually hits me in the afternoon and that means take a rest.
My doctor recommended a hysterectomy to me 3 years ago. My only regret is waiting to have the operation. This site helped me with many questions and insights.
Stay positive and take lots of deep breaths. Think of it as a new chapter in your life. I am sending you good wishes!

No advice but lots of sympathy and moral support here! I am in a similar situation - my uterus and fibroids are estimated to be the size of an 8-week pregnancy. They're coming out June 6 through my c-section scar! I'm keeping everything else. I am looking forward to the relief after it is all said and done. Think of what it will be like to not carry all that weight around! Bladder pressure, back pain, just general discomfort - good riddance. We're gonna feel like new women!! Good luck on the 3rd!
