Asked me to move up surgery date. Should I or shouldn't I??

I just got a call from my Dr and they asked me if I would move my TAH from April 8th to this Monday! Ahhhh!!! The other Dr who normally assists her is going to be out of town on the 8th and they haven't found a replacement for him yet. So they had someone cancel their surgery for this Monday and asked if I would like to move my date up. I do not have to move it up. It's totally up to me. They are going to call me back this evening for a answer. I've talked to my husband and he said its up to me. He can get time off when I need him. I'm 31 (32 June 1st) stay at home mom with 4 kids ages 13, 11, 7 and 3. Next week my kids will only be in school for 3 days also because they get Thursday and Friday off for Easter. I have pretty much everything already ready for the hospital stay. Just having a little freak out and any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Asked me to move up surgery date. Should I or shouldn't I??

If everything is ready and there's no reason not to----I would go for it. Sounds like you have things ready? Waiting longer just means another week to be anxious. And it sounds like otherwise it's a longer delay. To my thinking, sooner is better. But of course it's all about how you feel about it. Good luck with your decision.

Re: Asked me to move up surgery date. Should I or shouldn't I??

I would go for the earlier date. It sounds as if you have everything ready and are certain you need/want the surgery. According to the ladies who have gone before, the waiting is the hardest part and since there is no way of knowing how long you might be delayed, I'd get it done. Best wishes for you as you make your decision.

Do it!
You're pretty much all set, your surgeon will have her preferred assistance and you'll have that much less time to fret about it and be that much further along in recovery when the kiddos get out for summer break.
Sounds like a win-win to me, all the way around

Re: Asked me to move up surgery date. Should I or shouldn't I??

That's what I'm thinking. Just waiting to hear from my mother in law if she is available Monday to watch our 3 year old. I'm wondering how much I will need my husband in the hospital? Should he stay with me the entire time, or will he be AE to go home in the evenings to take care of the kids and get them ready for school in the mornings then come in after that?

Re: Asked me to move up surgery date. Should I or shouldn't I??

I say, go home in the evening and return when kids are in school. If someone else can stay, fine, but if not, the nurses will help you and you'll be sleepy. I preferred to be left alone, but that's personal preference. If you can have a backup plan in case you have problems and want him to stay, that would be nice. A lot depends on your kids, and how much you feel you'll need him, or someone, there. You know yourself and your family best.

Hubby can probably come and go as needed- you'll be asleep much of the time, anyway, and the nursing staff will be available to assist you with whatever you need.

I had 4 days to prepare. Less time to get stressed the better!

Re: Asked me to move up surgery date. Should I or shouldn't I??

I wished I would have had less time to get anxious, I had a month to think about it. A few days would have been enough time for me to prepare.

You've gotten great advice from our sisters, very similar to what I would have given you.

Re: Asked me to move up surgery date. Should I or shouldn't I??

Well, it's official. Surgery is Monday morning at 7:40am!! They started me on antibiotics yesterday for a kidney infection and I think the stress if today and the antibiotics have made me sick. I'm so nauseus and light headed. I think I've been having a all day anxity attack. The bad thing is I know I'm ready. I have my husband and family ready to help. Ugh, I hate feeling like this.
