New here and I am petrified

I'm a newbie to this forum, also. My surgery is scheduled for March 5 after finding bi-lateral ovarian cysts. I had been hurting but figured they wouldn't find anything and we'd go through MONTHS of trying to figure it all out. I'm having some urethra and vaginal wall repair, also. I have three kids and they were all 8 pounds or greater vaginal deliveries! It's amazing that anything in there is still working I'm anxious, too. I'm sure it's the fear of the unknown...and that's why I'm here. My friends who have been through it have been very helpful, but it's nice to know you all have been there and want to help, too. I'm afraid of all kinds of things and am just too busy for surgery. My husband's father has Leukemia and is undergoing chemo and my kids are 14, 10, and 8! The timing couldn't have been worse.

Try not to worry so much. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers...especially on Wednesday.

New here and I am petrified

Dear Scared,
Isn't it wonderful how women who don't even know eachother reach out with comforting thoughts and words of encouragement? It makes me proud to be part of this sisterhood! We're all scared and yet we are brave enough to face our fears and do what we know in our hearts is right for us, for our bodies. My thoughts are with you.

I told a very dear friend that next week I might be in pain, but with all the good drugs, I won't care!LOL

As everyone has said, you are feeling normal feelings. Everyone who has gone through this has been nervous. It is sugery, afterall. But remember, you will be in the hands of professionals who do these surgeries on a frequent basis.

Think positive thoughts and do things that you enjoy in order to relax.

I had LSH on September 18th (it would have been my fathers birthday, which at first made me nervous and then made me relax).

My surgery went really well....the only question was that they found a small mass on my liver, so after surgery I was sent for a CT scan and it turned out to be a small cyst that is fine. The most humorous part of the CT scan was (not only that my neighbor was my CT Tech...big city..small world) but that his partner asked me "Is there any chance that you may be pregnant?" I replied, "I had had a hysterectomy an hour ago, I think it's doubtful."

Recovery went really well. I had very little pain in the hospital or at home. I did not receive any pain meds until 5 hours post-op. I was on a walk with my nurse, after taking my first pee, and I asked her what I was getting in my IV, she replied, "sugar water." Yep, that's right, no pain meds. So she told me that I could have something if I wanted it, but that I had to ask. I went ahead and took half a dose of pain meds as a friend of mine, who had this surgery, told me to keep the meds going rather than getting into a lot of pain and then trying to manage it.

So, I took half doses every 5 hours. I came home th enext day and kept taking the pain meds for about a week, but cut back to only taking them before going to sleep for the night.

The only "comlication" I had was at 7 weeks post-op. I had a stich abcess. It was small, it hurt more than anything else in the entire process when the Dr. poked around at it. She put me on antibiotics for 5 days and it disappeared.

Just remember, we all got nervous. You are not alone, we're all here for you.
