Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Jul 26, 2020

Hi Everyone. Scheduled for a TAH-BSO, horizontal incision under GA on Friday. Had a very good pre-op meeting with my Dr. last week. She went through everything with me and answered all my questions.
I am almost 61, well past menopause, no pains and in very good health. Getting the surgery because fibroids are growing. This is not normal after menopause and multiple uterine biopsies came back saying that they did not have enough cells to make a diagnosis.
I am not particularly anxious about the surgery. I think DH is more anxious and stressed than I am.
I am more curious to see the pathology report, which we will discuss at my post-op on 1 Sept.
So far today I gave the house a very good cleaning, washed the litter box and did laundry. Tomorrow I am going to put some clothes on shelves so that they will be easy to get to when I get home. On Wednesday I will pack my hospital bag and on Thursday do a grocery shopping for the family. I will find out Thursday afternoon the time for my surgery on Friday. No food or drink after 11:00 pm. I don’t have to do a bowel prep or anything else to prepare.
Friday DH will drop me off at the hospital (due to Covid). My Dr. told me she would call him after the surgery to let him know how it went. If all goes well I will be released
Saturday morning. She told me all about my pain management and said we will go over it again before I am released from the hospital. When I get home it is rest and look after me time for a few weeks.
I think I have done everything I can to be ready physically and mentally for this. Hystersisters has been a big help. Thank you.
I hope that this week goes well for all of you and that you get good results.
Big hugs all around.

Hello & Welcome Pmt60! It sounds like you are doing an amazing job at preparing for your surgery! Below are some articles that I found helpful while I was getting things organized pre-op.Make sure you drink lots of water in the days leading up to your surgery. It's very important to be well hydrated, this will make it easier for staff to start your IV and will put you on the best foot for your recovery.

If you have any questions, please let us know! We are here for you

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Jul 26, 2020

Hi Everyone,
I wish you all the best with your surgery.
My surgery is Monday, July 27th at 7:30am. I am more nervous than I thought I would be.
I keep wondering if it will be painful and how much I will be able to do after surgery. I will have VAH BSO and like the other hystersister, I am 61 years old too. Not worried about menopause because I am in menopause already. Had break through bleeding...not too good for someone in menopause. I also have fibroids and the Doctor will do a DNC and biopsy, so like you, I am a little anxious about that.
I am all packed, thank you all for the suggestions on what to take with me to the hospital, everything is clean, house, bed room, especially "MY ROOM SPOT":
Since I am a Catholic Nun, one of the other sisters in my house, is going to help me out, and make sure I have meals, check on me, drive me around if needed or if I am stir crazy, I will beg to go for a car ride.. I am grateful for her help and caring.
My pre-op and pre-admission for tomorrow is done too. Everyone doing the pre-hospital check in were so very kind and helpful!
I also bought the abdominal binder and 2 pairs of the pressure underwear for after surgery. I have sleep apnea, so I will take my c-pap machine. It is safer for me to use my own machine. The nurse will make sure it is set up and ready in my room after surgery.
Again, thank you all for your kind words, suggestions, helpful tips, articals, stories, sharing and information.
I don't think I could have made it without you!
Please do let me know how you are doing after your surgery. I am praying for you and sending you each loving kindness.
Bye for now...

Good luck, everyone! My hysterectomy is scheduled for 8:30 am tomorrow. Worried and anxious but I'm also looking forward to it being over. I'm also worried about pain and discomfort afterward. I'm 63 so past menopause.

Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Jul 26, 2020

I had laser eye surgery a few years back. I followed pain management advice to a t. I had no post- op pain.
I plan on doing the same this time. The specialists know what they are doing. Remember, even though this is the first, and hopefully only, time for us, they do this a lot.
Hugs.

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Jul 26, 2020

Hello everyone! My surgery is at 7am tomorrow, in addition to my second endometrial laparoscopic excision. I'm 22 years old and experience severe chronic pain from a combo of endometriosis, adenomyosis, and fibromyalgia.
Everything but my ovaries will be removed, as to not induce menopause at my age.
It's been an incredibly difficult decision, but I'm grateful that my gyno has taken my pain seriously. I'm pretty anxious, but look forward to what will hopefully be a quality of life improvement.
Good luck to you all! You'll be in my thoughts

Hi I'm scheduled for a hysterectomy Wednesday July 29th. I had my required Covid-19 test today. It will dictate whether we move forward with this or postpone it. I am not sick or anything, but they said that this is just the new normal now.
I am very nervous. I will be frank, I just moved in to a brand new house and everything is everywhere. Boxes and more boxes. I am supposed to go in and out, not overnight, so not too worried.
Am I in denial?

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Jul 26, 2020

Ready or not it starts at 7:30 tomorrow. Today has been a "light bowel prep" day. Lots of chicken broth. Yum.

I think my surgeon is very good but my biggest concern is if the cancer has wandered into the sentinel lymph nodes. It would be excellent if after the daVinci surgery it all can just leave my body through the vagina and not require a more complicated surgery.

I am 63 and post menopausal.

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Jul 26, 2020

I am TLH with maybe the right ovary only being left. I am 50 years old and have suffered for years with Endo and pelvic pain. They are also going to excise Endo lesions off my bladder, rectum and sigmoid colon. I am hoping I don’t wake up with temporary bags for urine and bowel movements.

This will be my second lap, recovery from the first one was hard so I am going in prepared. Putting my bag together and preparing my house.

I have an ultrasound tomorrow to check the condition of my kidneys and Pre op screening including Covid on Tuesday. Then it is isolation for me till Friday.

Looking forward to the start of. New phase in my life. Crossing fingers it will be good.

Wishing everyone the best outcomes possible. I just wish it wasn’t Covid. I am being dropped off at the door by my husband and he can’t come in the hospital and will be called with an updated. Hopefully only one night in the hospital.
