New and facing surgery

Hello everyone!

I have had trouble all my life concerning my menstrual cycles. I suffered from killer cramps and passed out in every public school I ever attended. My Mom would get disgusted with me because I think it embarrassed her to come pick me up. She asked me if I couldn't control myself better. I grew up wondering what was wrong with me. I had no information. I wondered why I couldn't control myself.

I married at 27 and we discovered that we couldn't get pregnant. After over a year of trying, I found a wonderful doctor who would work with us. He suspected endometriosis. After some drug therapy for another year, we were able to have three children in 5 years with the therapy every time.

Things seemed to be better after that. Now 15 years later, the trouble is back. I went to the doctor because I didn't feel well. I felt fat and had all kinds of annoying pain. The second half of my cycle was miserable. And then comes the cramps, heavy bleeding, clots...mess, mess, mess!

In December '04, I was told that my uterus is enlarged, clear up to my belly button and protrudes to the right. Hysterectomy was recommended. I was in shock, although I suspected my turn would come because several women in my family have had hysterectomies because of various problems.

Knowing that doctors don't have the time to tell you everything, and I didn't know initially what to ask, I went home and waited for a call to schedule surgery.

I got on the internet and started searching for information about my now suspected adenomyosis. I found definitions and surgical procedure information. It was educational, but nothing like the Hystersisters web-site. Praise God for such a wonderful place to research, learn, understand, and be encouraged!

I now understand for the first time what has been going on with me. I am a person who has the "need to know" to be comfortable and accept what is going to happen to me. I am soooo greatful to all of you hystersisters out there who have educated and encouraged me.

I am going through the second-guessing, questioning my decision, and scared to death stages all at once. I'm so full of anxiety that I can't sleep much and I don't have an appetite. I've lost 4 pounds in three weeks.

Please pray for me. I would love to receive words of encouragement from you. I want to feel better, but I'm apprehensive about what the doctor will find, what he'll have to remove, and if I have any good parts left to keep. I'm trying to trust God, because He knows me and what He wants for me. I just need to accept.

Thanks so much for caring!

New and facing surgery

Hi there,

So glad you found us here at Hystersisters. I found this website back in December when my doc first mentioned the only thing left for me was a hysterectomy. I love it here. Everyone is so nice and so helpful. I just had my TLH Jan 4 and already feel really good. Still not 100% but better than I did with all the pain.

I hope you find all the information you can and enjoy reading.

Be Blessed

I don't know if it helps, but I think we all go through the second guessing, questioning your decision and scared to death all at once. At least I did! I think this site does help you find all the information so that you can accept your decision better.

But I found that it wasn't till surgery was over, that I really felt at peace with my choice. I kept thinking that maybe things weren't all that bad. When my doctor told me what he found it convinced me that I had made the right choice and waiting would only have made matters worse. Unfortunately, you can't get that kind of confirmation till you go through the surgery. Just trust yourself that you know your body best.

best wishes!!
