LAVH: Outpatient LAVH?

Who else is having LAVH in an outpatient surgery center? Seems like most people stay a night or two in the hospital, but I'm happy to be going home the same night. I am nervous though about the pain that first night. Anyone else in the same boat?

It may be that they're planning to send you home the same night, OR it may be that you're just getting admitted through a surgical daycare/outpatient center. When I had my LAVH, at this hospital, you check into the surgical daycare center. That's where they do all the prep before they take you into the OR, and then after that you go to recovery and then get admitted to a patient room for the night. I believe that at this hospital, this is how they do surgical procedures for anyone who basically comes in on their own (that is, isn't already admitted to the hospital for something and isn't brought in via the ER). For some of those people, they might be getting procedures where they'd go home the same day, but unless you are already IN the hospital, you come in via surgical daycare whether you're going or staying. So, you might check and make sure. In any event, they're not going to send you home if you don't pass a whole checklist of requirements, so don't fret that they're just going to kick you out the door bleeding and raving.

I had my TVH on 11/9 and also was scheduled for an "outpatient" surgery. It is considered a 23 hour stay (mostly by the insurance co) - my doc told me that if I needed to stay she would get it approved. I ended up staying for a second day due to pain. Make sure you speak with your doc about it before the surgery to make sure you are on the same page. having that question answered will help you prepare better.
