Anyone from the maritimes? I'm in NB. Having surgery on Tuesday. Would love to chat with someone from around here ** had it done already. Any support would help :-)

Hi, Julie2997! I'm in NB myself and had my hysterectomy here five years ago. The nerves before the surgery were absolutely the worst part. Everything got easier once I woke up afterwards and it was a done deal. :-)

Thanks for the reassuring words. I am in Moncton and I know why it's going so fast but still hard to accept.
I see you had both your ovaries out do you mind me asking if you went into menopause?

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 11/27 - any support would help

I was already four years past menopause at the time of my hysterectomy, so it wasn't an issue. If you're having your ovaries removed, have you and your doc discussed starting HRT after surgery?

I had my hysterectomy in Moncton as it was necessitated by endometrial cancer. NB's only got two gyn oncologists - about right for the size of our population - and they're both in based in Moncton. My cancer has been a good deal for Maritime Bus!

LOL. I'm sure we have more than 2 now. There was three just in the oncology section I went to.
Thank you for the feedback :-)

Good luck tomorrow! Don't be too worried if your nerves don't let you get much sleep tonight - that's normal. You'll have plenty of time to rest in recovery. :-)

Hi Julie2997 -

I was rudely dumped into surgical menopause at age 46 when I had my TAH BSO. For me, it was MISERABLE. My GP put me on HRT and it gave me my life back. I take oral bio-identical estrogen. Discuss HRT with your doctor and if it is an option for you.

Good luck with your surgery. We will be waiting for you on the other side.
