problems with Surgeons office and scheduling tests

My Surgeons office told me what tests I have to have and who to schedule with.Even told me the date I should have them done on. Now I get a call from insurance comp that my test dates fall after the pre- authorization period.
My question,Did you have to do your own test scheduling or did Doctors office. I cant help feeling I am getting shoddy treatment .Not to mention upset stomach and increased bleeding since this afternoon when i got calls. Isn't it bad enough i have to have something cut out of me,Or am I being overly emotional? Thanks for reading my rant

I don't know what is normal... But for me I had to schedule my own tests. I didn't have any issues with insurance paying for them though....

I did not have to do anything, all of mine were done when I went in for the surgery.

Re: problems with Surgeons office and scheduling tests

My surgery hospital faxed the orders for my tests to my local hospital. My local hospital called me and told me when to come in to have the tests done. I had them done two weeks before surgery.

Note that this was in Canada, so it's very likely different than how things are done in the States. It was easy for me because it was like being the groom at a wedding - all I had to do was to show up on time! :-)

I didn't see where you are from, but I am surprised to hear the doctors office isn't scheduling or at least sending the "orders" for the test. Usually, the doctor, test facility and the hospital will get the pre-authorization as they have to provide diagnosis and expected procedure codes. Maybe you can get with a good person at the insurance to help you, if not call the doctors office back and explain what is going on.

Good luck

Re: problems with Surgeons office and scheduling tests

My doctor scheduled it all for me and asked my advice on what worked for me. That said, insurance sucks. I had an oophorectomy two weeks ago and the doctor saw that I needed a hysterectomy with her own eyes, but couldn't do it then and there because I didn't have prior approval from insurance. My doctor knows my history and the fact that I would have been fine with the uterus coming out too ... But someone at a desk somewhere obviously knows better ... So 6 weeks post oophorectomy I get to go back for a hysterectomy. Did I mention that insurance sucks?
