I have to know every step
I wasn't sure whether I should put this here or post-op but I must know every single step of surgery, both LAVH and TAH.
Example, when I had liver surgery I went into a pre-op room to get undressed, get a pg test and have the IV put in. They put in something to relax me then a few minutes later they wheeled me away. I briefly remember being transferred to the surgery table and talking to the docs in the O.R. I woke up in the recovery room and my throat hurt like heck. I had an IV, catheter, and NG tube. Several hours later I was moved to a private room. I was still completely out-of-it. Around midnight I started puking my guts up and they weren't sure if it was the morphine or the NG tube. Come to find out the darn NG tube wasn't working. Needless to say I am petrified of going through that again. Can I just say puking after abdominal surgery is the worst, especially with a tube in your nose. The next day my throat hurt so bad that I didn't even think about my incision pain. I pushed the button everytime I could for the throat pain and was still completely out of it. I did manage to walk down the hall, tubes and all, so they would take the darn catheter out. The third day I felt more human, even walked the halls without help, and even better the 4th, even washed my hair and got dressed by myself
I swear I have post traumatic stress from that stupid puking incident and have to say that is the only thing I am really petrified of before this surgery. Do you have to have an NG tube for hyst?

I have to know every step
My doctor was very up front with me about everything and she never mentioned any tube that was going down my nose. I know I will be cathed for 24 hours. During surgery it is customary to be incubated (tube down the throat). I never have had a problem with that. This is the first time that I will be using a pain pump. I'll be on morphene, but if I don't tolerate that well, I'll be put on something else.
All my previous hospital experiences were good. I did have to remain longer in the hospital for my stomach surgery due to a headache that wouldn't go away. I eventually was given demerol and the headache went away.
I would try to put the past in the past and say that this is now. Things will be different this time. Try to focus on the positive.
