Managing pre-op pain
Hello All,
I had my pre-op on Nov. 8, and my doctor told me not to take alleave, which really helps me manage my pain daily due to thinning the blood. However, Aunt Flo is making her final curtain call, and I am in a lot of pain. Any suggestions on how to manage the pain? My dvH is Nov. 17. I cannot wait. I was diagnosised with endometriosis 17 years ago, on top of that I have fibroids, adhesions, ovarian cysts, and lots of scar tissue that has my uterus fused to my bladder. I am really looking forward to being out of pain. This has been a journey for me. This site has been invaluable to me.
Thanks my sisters for all of your support, wisdom, and advice.

Heating pad or hot bath is about the best I can recommend.

Re: Managing pre-op pain
Call your doctor and ask them. Sometimes, they can allow you to have certain pain meds. Please, just do not take anything on your "avoid" list - this is for your own health. Good luck.

Re: Managing pre-op pain
I agree with marestail! I'm in the same boat as you...I'm having surgery for endometriosis in a little over two weeks and I have to stop taking ibuprofen on Friday. I'm pretty scared of how much pain I'll be in but my doctor helped me come up with a pain control regimen that includes tramadol and tylenol during the day and vicodin with ambien at night. They were really willing to work with me and setting up a pain control 'plan' really helped put my mind at ease. Good luck!

I was told that I could take tylenol, but might check with your Dr.

Re: Managing pre-op pain
Thanks, ladies. I had a rough night last night. Called Dr. this morning, and she gave me permission to take the alleve.

cooperbronze70: I'm glad to hear you were approved to take alleve, since it worked for you before. I was surprised when you said that your doctor had told you NOT to take it, since that is exactly what my doctor told me TO take (instead of the aspirin that I usually used).
Best wishes to you. You're getting really, really close!

Re: Managing pre-op pain
to you...... I too had issues with pain before my surgery. My also worked with me and allowed me to take two OTC pain medicines, staggering them so that nothing would be "worn off" at any time. It wasn't perfect, but it was better than nothing!
Here's to a successful surgery for you.
