Did anyone get Vaginal candida soon after total hysterectomy?

About 2 weeks post op i got super itchy in the vulvar/vaginal area, thought it was dryness but at 6 weeks visit post-op surgeon said i had a fungal infection, gave me three Diflucan, one every three days. I haven’t had such an infection in decades (i’m 65) and worried it’ s one of those dreaded hospital acquired infections.
Did anyone experience this?
Thank you for your help.

Re: Did anyone get Vaginal candida soon after TAH

your vaginal PH might have been thrown off from surgery and having your ovaries removed. i had an issue with yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis after (i kept both ovaries). i had to stay on two meds for an extended period of time and havent had another infection in 15 years. also you might want to talk to your dr about vaginal estrogen.

When you're cleared to resume taking baths, adding a cup of apple cider vinegar to your bathwater can help to normalize your vaginal PH. Also keep in mind that candida fungi thrive in a moist environment, so keeping the area dry can help; top strategies in this area include blow-drying your pubic hair after showering or bathing, choosing cotton underwear, and swapping out moisture-trapping pantyhose for thigh-high stockings. Another common culprit in these infections is antibiotic use during surgery, which upsets the normal balance of good and bad bacteria inside your vagina; probiotics from yogurt, kefir, kombucha, unpasteurized sauerkraut, or a high-quality supplement can help to restore this balance. Candida fungi also thrive on sugar, much like the sugars in bread dough feed the yeast, which is what makes the bread rise, so keep an eye on your sweet tooth. Best wishes for beating these infections soon, and for continued health and healing!
