33 y.o. overwhelmed and alone. Help!!!
Hello, all. I’m 33 years old and had a PAH on 02/22. I had one ovary going into surgery and it was removed.
Life has been so hard since. I think about the future and I don’t feel like it’s worth it sometimes.
I am currently on a 0.25mg estrogen patch and I intend to get my levels checked in 2 weeks and increasing my dose because I understand surgical menopause and being this young with no ovaries and how important it is to get estrogen in our bodies.
I NEED HELP AND FRIENDS. I need advice from any who have or are going through this at my age. I will take anything. The risks of HRT are increasing my anxiety. Knowing that I have to be on it for the next 20 years is scary and daunting. I’m trying day by day to be positive and keep going. Advice and kind words please.

33 y.o. overwhelmed and alone. Help!!!
If you're looking for friends, then I recommend joining your recovery thread, where you can connect with other sisters who had surgery the same week as you, some of whom may also be dealing with surgical menopause. I also recommend using this forum to ask any specific questions you may have about HRT, where you can receive support and information from others who have dealt with similar questions. Best wishes for continued health and healing!

Re: 33 y.o. overwhelmed and alone. Help!!!
The dose of estrogen you are on is very, very low for someone your age without ovaries. I'm 65 (had my surgery when I was 46) and I've been on the 0.1mg patch for most of those years. I plan to keep using estrogen forever, and my doctor is fine with that.
There are risks with using/taking anything, of course. You need to weigh the actual risks against the benefits and decide what is best for you. What are the risks of taking HRT that have you worried? There is a lot of misinformation out there, so it would be a good idea to research using reputable resources and discuss your concerns with your doctor. To help you get started, have a look at the Menopause and Hormones - Articles and the Resource Database.
You may or may not already know this, but the estradiol patch is a bio-identical hormone. It's made to be a duplicate of the estradiol your ovaries made. Usually women do very well on bio-identical hormones but if not, there are plenty of other options.
At this point in your recovery the Recovery Progress Reports thread that covers your surgery week isn't as active, but you are still welcome to join in to share recovery updates and friendship with those who had surgery the same week as you. You'll find that thread by clicking on this link. If you have questions to ask, it's best to start a new thread in the support forum that focuses on whatever concerns you have, just like you did when posting here in the Surgical Menopause forum.

Re: 33 y.o. overwhelmed and alone. Help!!!
Thank you for the responses. I tried posting on the Recovery Thread but was told to post here and had my post removed. I’ll try again with different concerns and wording I guess.
My major concern with HRT is breast cancer. My mother had breast cancer and got a double mastectomy and from what I’ve read, that means I shouldn’t be on HRT? But I don’t know how I can live without it?

Re: 33 y.o. overwhelmed and alone. Help!!!
I checked your posting history and saw that you originally posted in the Introduce Yourself forum. In my reply there I suggested that you post in a hormone forum for those questions/concerns. You also have a reply on the Recovery Progress Reports thread for your surgery week, you replied on a thread in the Post-Op forum about the covid vaccine and then you have your posts on this thread. I don't see where anything has been removed. You can find your posts by clicking on your username and then using the menu to "Find all posts by" link.
Do your doctors know about your mother's breast cancer? If you really don't want to use hormone therapy, ask your doctor about non-hormone options and also ask about how to protect your bone health, as lack of estrogen can factor into bone loss.

All Medications have risks. A medicine they advertised for Multiple Sclerosis has a risk of breast cancer . I feel very safe taking Estrogen, actually , it keeps your immune system healthy keeping you from getting age related diseases, and breast cancer is in the mix . Our bodies need estrogen to function as women . I'm 69 and been taking estrogen for 30 years. I know women in their 80s still taking it . Estrogen is good , not bad . I would be more worried about drinking alcohol, smoking and eating unhealthy food . I don't know anyone who has died from estrogen, actually the contrary. Relax my friend and take your estrogen and enjoy a healthy life, you have a wonderful like ahead

Huggles dearie. So many things can cause cancer, but the lack of estrogen can decidedly cause an increase in anxiety and depression.
As terrifying as cancer is, you need to be able to live inside your own mind to get to that future. I had to go off my hrt two weeks ago and can tell you that it really is super hard going into surgical menopause. But you know what? I’d make the exact same decision to go on hrt that I did 3 years ago if I knew what I was going to go through.
Even with an estrogen receptor positive tumor, the dose of estrogen that comes from hrt doesn’t do very much to feed a tumor, if you were to get one, which is not a for sure thing.
Dear lady, you have been through so much so young and have made it to recovery. You are going to thrive. You will. It is all so very overwhelming. One breath at a time, one day at a time, moment to moment, know that we are all here with you. You aren’t alone!
Giant huggles.

Re: 33 y.o. overwhelmed and alone. Help!!!
Thank you all. I’m trying the hardest I’ve ever tried my whole life to keep going forward. Hearing from fellow Sisters that have been on HRT for such a projected time eases my mind some. I will definitely bring up my concerns when I see my gyn next week. Some days are easier, some days are harder. I will continue reaching out for support and friends here!

Re: 33 y.o. overwhelmed and alone. Help!!!
Hi there, I hope you are feeling better! I am 35 and 2 weeks post op, going through surgical menopause. I was very concerned about the cancer risk from HRT, both my grandmas had breast cancer and One had it twice. I asked my Oncologist to request a BRCA test to see if I had the gene and then he suggested I speak with a geneticist to go over my cancer risks. That helped me decide to start Estrogen after surgery. Everything came back normal for me so I opted to start a low does Estrogen patch. If you’re still concerned with cancer risks, maybe you could connect with a geneticist and do the BRCA screening if you haven’t already. Best of luck to you.

33 y.o. overwhelmed and alone. Help!!!
I am sooooo sorry! I was 39 when i lost my ovaries from endometriosis. Now i a 40. My doctor said to promise her i will use hrt and stay on it. She said it is so important when so young.
I researched online and got really nervous but i am still on it. She said the benefits greatly outweigh the risks. She said the cream, gel or patch is safer than oral pills. I am on a bioidental cream because i felt it was the most natural way to be on hrt. It has been a year, my only side effect is weight gain of 20 lbs which i am currently working on fighting. She added testosterone to my Rx which is supposed to help with weight gain. So now i am on estrogen, progresterone and testosterone! Yep im nervous about it for sure but i trust her! She is a specialist and is on hrt gel herself! If we stay healthy, eat right and exercise we can be healthy and happy on hrt.
Also i just had a mammogram that came back clear and normal!
