How much does a uterus weigh

I had tah and when I went in for my surgery I weighed 124 I went down to 117 and now I'm feeling better and eating normal I'm staying at 119. The surgeon said my uterus was about 5 times the size it should have been . I didn't ask how much it weighed though.

How much did your uterus weigh?

Probably not as much as you would think.
Though weight would be determined by size, fibroid tissue, uterine tissue, etc. The "average" uterus weighs approx 249 grams.
So if you are like me who had the uterus the size of being 4 months pregnant, several fibroids (largest measuring over 6cm) I think it's safe to assume that mine weighs more than the average.

How much does a uterus weigh?

I was reading some of the comments on the size of their uterus. My doctor said it usually weighs 1-2 oz. In my case my pathology report said my uterus weighed 477 grams. Since I was already in Menopause I didnt know anything was wrong. I went to sleep on Sunday feeling fine and woke up Monday morning in horrible pain. But im so busy at work, I dicnt call till Tuesday and didnt go in till Friday. Wuthin 20 mi of going in I had a sonogram and was in the office with him telling me I had 2 Fibroids (one 5 inch across and one 4 inch across. I asked to delay the surgery 2 months to save up money but had to move it up and had the surgery 1 month later. In that 1 month, the fibroid grew out of the uterus into my pelvis and depressed my urethra and was pushing into my intestines. It was so involved they couldnt get it out in 1 piece. The doctor had told me it was fast growing but I think the growth rate even surprised him.

Re: How much does a uterus weigh?

Hello Jennad

We are so happy that you found us here!

That is a great question you asked. Everything that I have read in doing a search online indicates that the uterus can be from 50/60 grams yet can go up to 200 grams. I understand what you mean about thinking something is normal or there wasn’t anything wrong. It sounds like a good thing that your doctor suggested surgery based on what was happening.

For any questions, give your doctor’s office a call especially for peace of mind.

You are still early in your healing journey. One day/week at a time sweetie!

How much did your uterus weigh?

Mine was 3.7kg due to large fibroids I was surprised it weighed so much but I was wearing maternity clothes trousers as I couldn't fit into regular ones. So thankful it's gone.
