Any one take Lupron pre-op?

I had the three month Lupron shot in February. I have every listed side effect including bad headaches that sent my primary care doc into a panic ordering me a stat MRI of the brain last week. I am normal thankfully. Any tips on what helps relieve them also the hot flashes are getting worse. How long will these side effects last once the medicine runs out?
My hysterctomy is scheduled for April 30 2007

I did (3) months of lupron shots before my hyst.

In pre-op, my Dr. told me that once lupron is out of the system, the side effects can generally disappear pretty fast. For me that was true. My lupron side effects - such as hot flashes and night sweats - stopped days before my hyst. I haven't had a side effect since and my ovaries are working good.

I had my first lupron injection middle of January. The hot flashes and night sweats were not very comfortable for me either. I started on black cohosh but when I went in for my 9 weeks check up my Dr. was asking me how I was feeling and I mentioned to him about the black cohosh and he told me to stop it. He said that even though it's natural it can/possible produce some estrogen which causes the fibroids to grow. So he started me on a low dose of Gabapentin 100mg. He said that if in 2 weeks I felt no improvement with the hot flashes/night sweats that I can increase it to 2 pills. I do notice a bit of a difference.

I'm sorry you're having a rough time with Lupron.

I had the same experience as ((historylady)) in that the side-effects wore off pretty quickly when the drug wasn't topped up at the end of the course. Some doctors will prescribe 'add-back therapy' to help relieve the menopausal-type symptoms, but others (like mine) won't do it ~ I think it all depends on the reason for your needing Lupron.

If you can handle it for a few more weeks then great, as you're nearly there. If not, have a word with your doctor and see if there's anything he can do to help relieve your symptoms.
