June 8th & scared stiff!!

Dear Keyco:

It is normal to be a little nervous before surgery. I had a LVAH with a bladder sling on April 28th and I am doing fine. In my opinion approaching the surgery with a positive attitude and a willing spirit helps a lot. I actually went to my 2 week post-op appointwent last week and he told me I was doing great. I actually gave my permission to drive and told me that because of my line of work that I would not be returning to work for 8 weeks. He was just amazed how well I tolerated the surgery. Remember, when u get the ok to get up do so slowly, urinate if you can, ask for pain meds don't let your pain get to a 10!! before calling your nurse. Ask questions if your confused, and get plenty of rest.

My surgery is June 11th ...I am so scared too...it is all I can think about...I try to keep busy but it is always there....Sometimes I can't wait until the day is here and sometimes I never want it to be here

I know just what you mean as i am exactly the same. Its strange as sometimes I find im actually looking forward to it!!!! I think I just want it over and done with now and start living again. I go for my Pre op on Tuesday so I really feel im getting there.

I am going in on June 8th too!! I'll be thinking about you! I am having a super cervical hysterectomy (I think this is what it is called...removing uterus, leaving cervix/ovaries). I am terrified too. I have a zero tollerance for pain!!

I am not sure exactly what i am having done yet, perhaps will know more on tuesday when I go for my pre op. I have 2 large fibroids that have been giving me lots of problems, so removing uterus and because i am 46 they think its best my ovaries too, but I am not sure about my cervix.
It would be good to keep in touch and swop notes, especially all that time we are going to have on our hands post op!!!

How did your pre-op go...do you know anything more about your surgery.....I must be driving my husband crazy...because I am so back and forth with this surgery ...he doesn't know what to say sometimes....I feel bad but I am so emotional right now....I wish I could go to sleep right now and wake up and it is over...I think it is the unknown of how everything turns out after the surgery that bothers me the most....

I guess all we can do is take it one step at a time!!!xxx

Just as an FYI, once you are post-op you will be invited to join a Recovery Progress thread where you can post updates on your progress through your recovery with others having surgery the same week.

If you have specific questions about something going on in Recovery the hostess servicing as a "cruise director" or "RA" on that thread will direct you to open a new thread in the post-op forum.

This will give you something to do and some way to stay in touch during recovery.

yes me too, worry so much about after the op, but at least we have found this site and have the support of such lovely people.

I'm June 7th and feel the same way. I can't wait for the pain to go away, but scared of what the operation and post-op holds. Good luck!

i have less than a week -- but all this week beforehand find myself on the verge of tears. ready to break down and bawl, but trying to keep control.

of course, i'm due for my period any day now. (wishing it would get started one last time, so i don't roll into the OR with the horrid/worst initial cramps and bloating!). but is that really why i'm an emotional wreck?

i thought about it a lot this morning, and explored -- with pen and paper -- what's making me want to cry. it really helped. i realized i have a lot of fears -- not general "fear," but very specific stuff i could outline if i thought about it. that helped me -- now i have a beginning outline of my feelings, and can map a strategy for countering my fears with bravery as needed, with specific thoughts to help me through.

maybe this will help you a little. be brave! keep reminding yourself, too, that this is the beginning -- hopefully -- of the path to wellness and healing! best wishes.
