NZ New Here TLH on 28th March 2018

Hi I am booked in for surgery on the 28th March 2018. Great to get lots of tips from hystersisters from all over! Just wondering if there are any other New Zealand sisters on the site at the moment?
Have been waiting just over a year for op, so am feeling both excited (at the prospect of having less pain eventually) and nervous (not knowing what the end outcome will be, and how long will need to recover).
Wish me luck!!!

Good luck with your surgery. I'm waiting to see gynaecologist/surgeon on 29th for consultation and where to from here. Have switched from public to private system.

Best wishes for your consultation on the 29th. I did seriously consider going private. But am having surgery through the public system, as my insurance would not cover the cost.

Re: NZ New Here TLH on 28th March 2018

Hi Badjelly, I'm in Kaiapoi ( near christchurch) and had my hysterectomy plus multiple other repairs 8 days ago.
Where are you?
I found the waiting was by far the worst part The recovery is definitely full on but it hasn't been as bad as I expected.
Hope it all goes well. This site has been a real life line.
Cheers, Anne

Re: NZ New Here TLH on 28th March 2018

Hi Badjelly, hope your op went smoothly and you are recovering well! I am in the Waikato and had a total abdominal hysterectomy - uterus/cervix removed, ovarys left due to a 22-week fibroid uterus + endo resulting in anaemia issues, etc. - on 7 November last year. I was fortunate to have no complications or pain management issues but definitely took it easy for the 4-weeks off work and had help during this time. Physically and mentally, being encouraged to do 2-walks per day when I went home 3-days post-op made a big difference - I started off walking to the end of my shared driveway and then progressed a power pole down the street each walk. I was so sick of my street after a week. :-) It turned out to be a highlight of 2017 for me and wishing you the same!

Thinking back, definitely snack on prunes - amazing things, haha for your bowell - and check out You Tube for the side roll in and out of bed. I never realised how low my bed was until I got home - the side roll/push works. :-)

(((Ladies)))

It’s wonderful to see new friendships forming here in the Neighborhood forums!

Please use the dedicated Hysterectomy Support Forums however, for all discussions and support surrounding hysterectomy surgery and recovery. But you are more than welcome to chat here about local topics involving your community, city or state.

Neighborhoods is one of very few areas on the site where we enjoy a welcome break from hysterectomy discussions!

We'll look for any ongoing support posts in the appropriate forums, and your invaluable tips in our dedicated Hints From Members forum where all can benefit.

With many thanks and best wishes!

Hi Ladies
Surgery booked for 17 April, ten days to go. I'm trying to keep busy for the next week doing the housework and things I probably won't be able to or feel like doing when I get home. Having surgery <>.

Re: NZ New Here TLH on 28th March 2018

Hi Hispetal, I hope the next 10-days go swiftly and this fab late summer weather sticks around for your recovery! In hindsight, the pre-op waiting (and thinking/imagining/Googling!) period was the most stressful time for me and none of my pre-op concerns eventuated. Based on mine and a few friends experiences, you hear less about the positive experiences and I was fortunate to have this and bl00dy amazing nursing care. Take care and all the very best.
