Bladder spasms 2 months after total hysterectomy/ oophorectomy

Hello,
I am 2 months post-op from my laparoscopic total hysterectomy and oophorectomy due to endometriosis and endometrioma cysts, as well as adenomyosis.

During the surgery my bladder was cut (5 cm) and repaired. I had a catheter in for 9 days which led to a complicated UTI and kidney infection. I had a PICC line inserted for antibiotics, which led to a C Diff infection.

I am finally recovered from infections and my PICC is out, but I am still having bladder issues. After I empty my bladder, I will get mild spasms for anywhere from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. It only happens after I empty my bladder.

I am not on any HRT. Oxybutynin doesn't help and neither does Detrol LA or Pyridium. I have also been going to pelvic floor therapy for a month.

I'm hoping it will go away with time, but if anyone else had this and had success with relief please let me know!

Nicole. Oh my dear, you have been through so much ... sending you I am so sorry you are having trouble with bladder spasms. What has your doctor said? Have you seen a URO/GYN or urologist? I went to PFPT and it helped the bladder issues I was having. What has your therapist said?

I'm surprised you were going to pelvic floor therapy a month after surgery! That seems pretty hard after a major surgery and a complication to the bladder. The only reassurance I can give you is that I had a similar bladder issue after my hysterectomy, and the urogynecologist I saw didn't think it was a big deal at 3 months. She thought I could still be healing. She offered me more hydrocodone and also sent me to pelvic floor therapy. Maybe you just need more time to heal.

if you've been checked recently for a UTI and don't have one, ask your dr. about using vaginal estrogen. that might help with the feeling of spasms.

I agree, taking vaginal estradiol (Estrace) rather than a conjugated estrogen can especially help to heal the vaginal and UT areas. Studies have been done and are available online about estradiol and the way adequate levels help to build up tissue walls and also protect against bacterial lower urinary tract infections. Asking about adding systemic estrogen support (like twice-weekly estradiol skin patch) might also be a good idea. That, along with the vaginal estradiol, have helped me to heal from UT/bladder issues, both pre- and also post-hysterectomy. Praying that you find the things that will bring healing very soon

I live in a rural area and I drive 3 hours to see my OBGYN and Urologist (separate doctors). I have an appt with my OBGYN on April 21st to talk about if estrogen cream may be right for me and my bladder/urethra issues.

My "spasms" are not painful, so I am not taking any painkillers for them. It's a weird sensation, it doesn't feel like a UTI/bladder infection type of spasm where it's very uncomfortable. It's just short, mild squeezing sensations after I urinate for anywhere from a couple of minutes, to maybe 15 minutes or more.

It is getting better and I think I just need to be patient. I will update if I get estrogen cream and report on my results.
