Exclamation - Post-Op members only: Did you keep your ovaries? Post-Op members only: Did you keep your ovaries?

I kept both in 2009 & life was great! Then last March 2015 I had an instant sharp pain that grew more intense each day. I had already self diagnosed myself (lol) because I knew that type of pain & knew it had to be a cyst in the ovary. I made an appointment with my GYN & luckily had a vaginal ultrasound the same day in his office. Afterwards the doctor took my husband & I in his office & explained that my self diagnosis was correct but that wasn't the problem. It was the twisting of the fallopian tubes (adnexal torsion) that was causing such extreme pain & I would need emergency surgery to remove them. Immediately after surgery my body went into surgical menopause & then that's when all the "fun" started. Now we're on a mission to find what will work for me. My story is not the same for everyone but unfortunately sometimes these things do happen. My advice is to trust your body & see your doctor immediately if you experience any pain.

Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

Yes. I am 52 and although my mom was two years younger when she went into menopause at 50, I had no signs that I would be so lucky.

My doctor and I agreed that it would be ovreally better to keep my ovaries if they were in good shape, but wouldn't know that until surgery. I gave up a six pound uterus and seven large fibroids after four hours of surgery. She thought she saw something on one ovary, but it was on the fallopian tube (nothing concerning), so both remain. I believe I ovulated for the first time post op as I had a rather "fun" bout of what appears to have been PMS. No hit flashes or migraines, really sore breasts and moody, eating everthing in sight. I think they are working. For now I would rather deal with that than possible hot flashes. I think.

Kept both of mine. The benefits outweighed my risks. They looked great during surgery so they are still there.

Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

Yes. So far I'm glad I did. But they were lifted up and sewn to my abdominal wall just under my rib cage so the radiation treatments wouldn't damage them.

I did keep my ovaries. The doctor did have to remove a cyst from one ovary.

I kept both. I thought they would remove them, I suffered through PCOS for years.
Fibroids ruined my life but YAY, its over.

Yes I kept both of my ovaries but the doctor decided during the procedure that it was best to take both of my tubes. My age was the determining factor for keeping the ovaries. Doctor felt I was too young to lose them if they were able to be saved. I also have high blood pressure and was not a great candidate for hormomes.

Btw..I love the interaction of this page
