You wouldn't believe what just happened

I was sitting here trying to wake up and I heard a loud thunk on my front window. I have several bird feeders on my front porch and just knew that a bird had flown into the window again. I pulled open the drapes and didn't see anything. So I walked out onto the porch and saw a beautiful Northern Cardinal laying on the ground, curled up backwards. I thought maybe he had broken his neck. I went over and picked him up and he straightened out. It was clear that he was dazed. I stood and held him about 20 minutes until he regained himself and flew away. I wish DH was up so he could have gotten a pic for me. It was a once in a lifetime thrill to hold such a beautiful bird.

I'm so glad he was ok as birds die so easily from shock. It's generally only when things go wrong that we can hold a wild creature.

Thank you for sharing!

What a lovely thing for you to have done and experienced. I've never held a bird, but my in-laws used to have a suirrel that came around every day and would take food out of people's fingers. Last Christmas I got to hand feed him several times. Since I always wanted to hand feed a squirrel that a big thrill.
