I ran across a woman I know a month into my hysterectomy recovery, She looked at me and said "oh, I am sorry you lost the baby" ! I just smiled and kept walking, I guess the fibroids had my belly buldged up more then I'd thought! lol I didn't know people thought I was pregnant though!

After my hyst. I went to the hospital to have a ct done. Prior to having my ovaries removed. I saw a friend I hadn't seen since a few months before my hyst. She had recently finished nursing school and had gotten a job at the hospital. I told her I was there b/c dr. thinks I may need to have my ovaries removed. She said oh, then you won't be able to have children. I said right but remember I already had my hyst. in Jan. they took my uterus and cervix. Her reply was oh, you can still get pregnant without those right?

Yes, she graduated nursing school! SCAREY huh? I had to explain it to her.

What's scary is what she thinks happens if you DO get pregnant without a uterus and cervix! Boggles the mind.

This was said to my mother years ago by my grandfather when she told him she was going to have a hysterectomy. "Oh my god, but you're so young! This is terrible for both you and Corky" (my dad). My mom questioned him further and apparently, when my grandmother had a hysterectomy, she told him they just sewed "it" shut and there was no more sex allowed after that. My mom, being an RN, explained the actual procedure and Boy! Was gramps mad!! Mom may have opened a really smelly can of worms there! :wowee:

This was said to me last week - went to visit a new dentist - so he went through regular questions - how is your health - told him I was 10 weeks post op hysterectomy - his next question and 'is there any likelyhood that you are you pregnant'. Well I guess he is a dentist not a doctor lol

When I went in for my 3 week post-op visit, the tech asked me "What's the date of your last period." I said, "Does it really matter? I post-op from a hysterectomy?" She had my records, but guess she didn't really look at it.

I went in for an incisional hernia repair 2 weeks ago(due to the wound infection I got when I had my hysterectomy) when I checked in they asked if I had a urine sample I said no I wasnt told to bring one... she asked when my last period was and I told her that I had a hysterectomy April 23 of this year.... she looked at me like I had two heads and asked me again in a stern voice "WHEN WAS THE DATE OF YOUR LAST PERIOD?... I said ummm I guess it would be APRIL 23rd when I had my hysterectomy.... I guess a light went on because she turned beat red!!

too funny! The funniest are comments from the health care community, even the dentist should know.

The last period question is common, but in these cases, it's just absurd. Prior to surgery, I was asked that question several times, but with my bleeding and being menopausal and not knowing it, I just couldn't answer that question. It was OK though.

Thinking of pre-op questions reminds me of the one about allergic reactions. I'm allergic to penicillin, according to my mother. When I mentioned this, one nurse wanted to know what my reaction was like. I really don't know, I told her and in fact, my mother has told me that it could be my brother or sister who is allergic. The nurse put on my record, under reaction to allergy, "mama said." She told me that comment was perfectly acceptable. She said that she would never argue/disagree with " mama said."

I went to a family doc for a rash I was getting and thout it may be a allergic reaction to on of the meds I was on.I was asked "Why did you get the hyst?"I replied "I had endo, heavy bleeding, and adhessions everywhere."he then asked "so WHY did you get the hyst?"I allmost said because it sounded like fun!after he understood why i had the hyst he asked me why I was on Estrogen? This is also the same doc that told me in april that my pelvic pain was all in my head.I wonder how he got his md.

little brat,
I wonder how he got his md license too? Maybe from the cracker jack box!
Hope you don't have his as your dr. anymore. It does really amaze me some times what dr.'s will do or say.
