Oh No-Strep in household!

I just took my school age dd in to her dr. this AM and found out she has strep throat! As a precaution her pediatrician put me on Z-pak since my surgery is Tuesday. I tried to reach my dr. to tell him what is up, but he is not in today. I talked to the nurse there that said it should be fine. I hope I can go ahead with my surgery scheduled Tuesday as I have family coming 700 miles to help out. Deep breath and prayer! I'll find out Monday what my dr. thinks at my pre-op. Have any of you had to take antibiotics before surgery?

I've never had to take antibiotics before surgery, but I did have a school age daughter who caught strep so many times they were beginning to wonder if she wasn't a carrier. I never caught it from her.

I was on a heavy duty antibiotic (Cipro) up until Monday of this week for a bladder infection (complication from biopsy 5 weeks ago).

If I were you I would just go out of my way this weekend to keep your hands away from your eyes, nose, etc., and wash your hands like crazy. I'd almost be tempted to wear gloves. I'm not a doctor, obviously, but I'd be overly cautious if I were you.

Strep is nothing to mess around with! I will be thinking about you (just washed my hands and opened the restroom door with the papertowel!).
