surgery Aug 11th

Surgery is scheduled for Aug.11th. I go tomorrow for pre-op work up. I will find out then the time of surgery. I am now starting to get nervous. But I'm not really nervous about the procedure itself. I have been put under 6-7 times. I am more worried about the after effects as in the sex drive. I have a very healthy sex life with my boyfriend now and am really worried that it will change after this. He is also worried. Any suggestions on relieving this worries?

Re: surgery Aug 11th

Hi,

I can't tell you from personal experience but I was worried about my sex life too. I spoke to three of my Aunts who had hysterectomies and they say their sex life got better. They were all in a lot of pain and very irregular periods like me. Are you getting a full hystie?

I am jealous of you. I want my surgery!!! I am so ready for it to be over!! I hope I get to schedule it up soon. I go in for my last shot of Depot Lupron tomorrow (8/10). I am just sick of being in constant pain, I might even do it myself.

Well I hope I helped you!! Just take it slow and talk about it with your boyfriend.

Re: surgery Aug 11th

If you are keeping your ovaries then you shouldn't have to worry about the surgery affecting your sex life a bit! I know several women who had complete hysterectomies, kept their ovaries and said it only got better, not having to deal with the bleeding and pain. The ovaries regulate your hormones and if those were removed you could lose some libido (not always but sometimes) but there are replacement hormones to help with that too. Sometimes after surgery your ovaries can take a bit to "wake up" again, but if it becomes a problem, just let your doctor know. Mine said she would help me out with temporary replacement if that happens. No worries, look forward to a healthy future!

Re: surgery Aug 11th

They have a little white box and they put it on your arm and it cuts you and they time how long it take you to clot.

Eyelady1971- I have not had the clotting test done.I have had surgeries before so maybe they won't, or maybe they will do it at my pre-op on August 31st. Thank you for letting me know what that is.

Re: surgery Aug 11th

Thanks for all the responses. I went for pre-op appt. today and they should be calling me soon with the time for surgery tomorrow. They are taking everything out except ovaries (if they are okay). I am starting to get nervous now.
I didn't realize how nervous I was until I had to fill out all my paperwork today. Wow, I could have used alot of whiteout. It was so messy, I was embarrassed to give it to the nurse. Well, now it is down to the last 24 hrs. I will check back in later.

Re: surgery Aug 11th

Bjhill422 - I have bouts of nausea thinking of what is coming myself, but I just know it's going to go great for you and for me! Do remember to ask your staff at the castle for anti-nausea medication and pain medication in your IV BEFORE you wake up. You don't have to wake up feeling sick or in pain, they can help you ahead of time. That is what I did for my gallbladder surgery and it makes a world of difference! I will be thinking about you and will pray for a successful surgery and easy recovery. Looking forward to hearing how you are doing on the "other" side!
