Question - Pilates post-op (June 2015) Pilates post-op (June 2015)

How soon can I return to Pilates post-op? I am 7 days post-op (June 2015) and I'm anxious to get to my new barre3 workout. I know my body needs time to heal but 6 weeks seems so long!

Wait the full six weeks! Your core muscles have been through a lot and need rest to repair. I'm anxious, too, because I look at my "swelly belly" and want to immediately start doing planks. Exercising too soon can actually increase the swelling. 3 weeks post op, I went to choir practice and my stomach muscles hurt after about 15 minutes of singing.
Follow your doctor's orders and don't push it too soon.

This is correct. If you're not sure, please contact your Dr. Pilates is primarily for your core and your core really needs it's rest right now to heal right. You only get one shot to heal but will have the rest of your life to do Pilates. Once your Dr clears you, you may want to start out slow. fitnessblender.com has a great work out for post surgery/post-natal patients,

Re: Pilates post-op (June 2015)

My doctor advised me to wait six months before engaging in core exercises and any exercise that involves the core in a major way like swimming. Does it really have to be that long??!
