Re: August B.E.S.T. Chatter Thread

Hello my BEST Friends (waving at you all)

Margo - congratulations on being a grandmom!! Colton sounds like he's in grandbaby heaven with you babysitting. Very cool on all the canning your doing. I haven't canned in years.

PJ - are you sure? Really really sure you wouldn't like to wear burn orange? That's quite a change from "spring" colors. Did you ask if the consultant had ever been diagnoised as color blind? Just kidding. Enjoy!

Barri - I think a woman should have all the "toys" she wants. I hope you get your new serger AND your new embroidery machine. He had to remember all the wonderful gifts you make with your sewing. That's so cool you are enjoying your dad being with you. And I can understand you wanting some "alone" time with the men banned from the house. LOL.

Val - 25 lbs of raspberries? That a LOT OF RASPBERRIES. Yikes!! Hope you didn't get a bunch of little finger pricks while picking them. I love raspberries - blackberries also. So glad you enjoyed all your family visits.

Another Woman - hi to you - glad to meet you!!

DH just had a minor surgical proceedure on Tuesday to remove 2 cysts from off his chest. He's got 2 nice suture lines as the cysts were bigger & deeper than the surgeon thought they would be. He's not allowed to lift heavy things for bend over for long - for a couple days. He's doing just fine however. Bx should be back by next week. They should come out clean.

Isn't it amazing how the summer has flown. I could stand 1 more month of HOT HOT HOT weather. We've been sooo busy. The only thing we have not gotten to do is have 2 small BBQ's for different groups of friends here at our house. I've promised myself the next summer I'll do that before I do anything else. We've had a lot of company - DH's family here almost every weekend in June & July using the pool, cooking out, etc.... and we've done a LOT of volunteering as you all know for the TFK program. I'm sorry I'm not a crown jewel at the moment to post pics. But you can "friend" me at that other social network site. LOL. I've plenty of pics there.

News flash! Youngest DD has finally gotten her learners permit to drive! About time!! I've been making her practice right here at our house. In & out of the drive way - driving on our little street up & down in front of our house. She's not quite ready to take on anything else just yet. But it's a start!!

And as you all probably know - we had an earthquake on Tuesday. Centered in Washington DC but was felt quite easily here in NJ. I personally didn't feel it but family members did. Woke middle DD right up as she napped before going into work that day. I was standing in line at CVS when it happened - never felt a thing.

And.... (here's the final "and").... we have hurricane on the way. Yes, Irene is heading our way. She is supposed to arrive very late Saturday or early Sunday. The eye should pass 10 miles off the coast of Atlantic City about 1pm on Sunday afternoon as a slower catagory #2 with 100mph winds. They have already begun mandentory evacuations from the barrier islands in Cape May County. Atlantic County, where I live, has not done any mandentory evac's as yet - they are asking residents in AC to leave beginning now. How about the casino employee's? Middle DD works at Borgata and is scheduled to work all weekend. Perhaps they will give rooms to employees and make sure their cars are parked way up in the garage above the storm surge. Yikes!! It's scary that we have not had a direct hit since 1944 - so we are due. I started to batten down the hatches yesterday. DH & I will finish the last 2 things tomorrow. We want to take down the top to our gazabo and the brand new awning over our back porch. Then back up on Monday when the weather clears as we're hosting a big surprise birthday/BBQ/pool party for his sisters 60th on Sept 4th. Next weekend? Already? Wow......

OK - that's the update. I know I've forgotten a ton of thing. Just know that I think of you often, I'm well, happy & healthy. Still trying to eat healthy and keeping my weight maintained. So all is right with my world for the moment.

Hugs to all my BEST friends. I'll stop in again and let you know how we made out from the storm.

Melis

P.S. Maybe I should plan a vacation.....take a break from all this excitement. LOL.

Re: August B.E.S.T. Chatter Thread

Melissa, I hope Irene heads far east and you do not have any trouble with the storm. A friend in RI said that TWC's Jim Cantore just arrived in town, and that's not a good sign during a hurricane.

Re: August B.E.S.T. Chatter Thread

Hello
Barri, the cinnamon pickles aren't hard to make, just very time consuming, if you would like the recipe I will message it to you. I love how you use your sewing for relaxation and doing for others. I hope you get your dream machine.
Welcome Another Woman, I will try to message you the recipe. They are really tasty. Cake/Salad? Maybe I could start a new diet trend.
Melissa, please be safe. We are enjoying Colton so much, he is a sweet baby. We get to keep him overnight in October when the kids go to Pittsburgh for a friends wedding. YIPPEE!!
Val, I love Red Raspberry jelly, 25lbs would make alot!!! LOL
Desk, are you far enough inland that the storm won't bother you?
I better go, I need to get the shower cake in the oven and walk on the treadmill while it is baking. Love you girls Be safe if you are near the East Coast, will keep you in my prayers.

Re: August B.E.S.T. Chatter Thread

Thanks for thinking about me - we are so far west that we don't even expect to get any clouds from the hurricane. so I'm sending all positive energy for Irene to head out to sea and leave the rest of the east coast alone and safe.

to everyone

Re: August B.E.S.T. Chatter Thread

We did get clouds, but it's clear and breezy out here. I'm anxious to know how our VA, PA, NJ families are doing. I have lots of family in the New England path so I'm waiting to know that everyone comes through safely.

Re: August B.E.S.T. Chatter Thread

Hi Everyone,
I hope all the East Coast families are safe. What a terrible tragedy! So glad you are OK Desk.
We had to move the baby shower at the last minute on Saturday and we were all in a tizzy getting everyone called and making last second changes. But how trivial it all seemed in the wake of "IRENE". We had such a beautiful day Saturday and we celebrated a new life while one was being laid to rest at the church where we were going to have the shower, so I really didn't mind moving it. My Sister opened up her home and we had such a lovely time. DH was so upset because the church new about the funeral and dinner almost a week before the shower because the lady was from Florida and the family brought her home for burial. Just an oversight on the secretaries part.
I hope everyone along the coast is safe, it is amazing how much damage there is inland from the storm. to all.
