Seeking encouragement from those that have had da Vinci Hysterectomy

Hi Sisters: My pre-op is this Friday and my surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16th. I am having a LSH using the Da Vinci machine. The doctor is leaving my cervix and ovaries. I have a fibroid that is the size a 20 week pregnancy. I have put it off and put it off because of work, but I just can't put it off any more. I have taken the week off following my surgery, and have a very light the week at work after that.

I think I just need to hear words of wisdom, encouragement and experience.

Anything I need to know? They are talking about doing "out patient," but I'm a wimp when it comes to pain and personally I'd rather be drugged for days (lol). I'm trying to get everything ready, so I can just lay around for a few days after. Any tips or advice you all can pass along?

Thanks so much in advance,
Anne

Re: Seeking encouragement from those that have had da Vinci Hysterectomy

I had the daVinci for a total hyster w/ BSO. As for the procedure itself and recovery from scars things were great. My challenges came from loosing all my hormones (wasn't menopausal) and stress because this all started from unexpected cancer.

One word of caution because of the small incisions you will think you didn't have major surgery so take it slow and don't overdo it.

Good luck and prayers for a very successful surgery.

Dear Anne,

Best wishes to you in your journey to the tomorrow.

Hope your da Vinci surgery goes as well as, WAIT, even better than mine did. Given you are having the da Vinci/LSH, I think you will have a stellar recovery and presumably will be quicker than my da Vinci/LAVH.

Your great attitude will help a bunch, too!

Sleep well and please let us know when you return!

Bon voyage!

Re: Seeking encouragement from those that have had da Vinci Hysterectomy

Good luck to you with your RALH. I had one May 21 st and I had very lttle pain. I have done what this website suggests and done very little. You only have one chance to do the healing right. My doctor did not give very detailed instructions. If I had gone by what she said, "Just don't lift or twist and no sex," I would have done too much, because that is the way I am.
I just started cooking this week. I have been sleeping in a recliner since the surgery but hope to get back in bed with my husband this week.

My suggestion is to listen to your body when it comes to going back to work. It has been three weeks and I am just now getting ready to go back to work.
Everyone heals at their own rate. Good luck to you.

Re: Seeking encouragement from those that have had da Vinci Hysterectomy

i agree totally with all of the above advice! Since you will only have several small incisions, and the pain really is minimal (800 mg ibruprofen is all I ever needed), it is easy to do too much.

Free advice: make sure you use stool softeners twice a day (my dr insisted on this), and have a laxative on hand. Lots of fiber and water-constipation was no fun.

Also, sit with your feet up and don't do too much too soon. You truly will know when it is too much.

I can't believe they would do your surgery outpatient!! I would recommend insisting on one night in the hospital!

Good luck - you are lucky you can have the robotic surgery!!!!
