Can't seem to stay awake..

I'm not sure if it's a combination of my hormones going completely insane, depression, or stress, but I have had a Dickens of a time staying awake in the day time. It feels like all the life is just sucked right out of me. I'm trying to eat healther ( I even discoverd a yummy way to make turkey burgers so they don't taste like cardboard hockey pucks), I'm drinking more water than I have in years, and making the concious effort not to stay up all night just ot watch bad re-runs on Bravo. I'm still struggling to get enough exercise because my energy level bottoms out as soon as my feet hit the floor in the morning. I'm taking a multi-vitamin every morning, and aside from being slightly overweight and this annoying cervical cancer, my doctors say that all my "levels" are normal, if not EXCELLENT. So how is it that I feel like I was run over by a convoy of trucks??

Re: Can't seem to stay awake..

Have you always had this problem or is it new? Have you had a sleep study? There are many sleep disorders that cause excess day time sleepiness. My son was recently diagnosed with one. He said even with many hours of sleep he still felt tired all day. The sleep specialist said that should be a red flag. We all feel tired when we don't get enough sleep but if you are getting 8 hours in and still feel tired, that can be an indication that your sleep is being disturbed by something.

Of course, there are many other conditions that can also cause this - anemia, hypothyroidism to name a few.

You start by asking whether the three things you are going through - hormones, depression and stress - when taken together, could be causing the fatigue you are currently experiencing. The answer is, "Absolutely!" Dealing with a cancer diagnosis, and facing a major surgery as the treatment is enough to suck the energy out of anyone! Add the effects of the cancer on your body, including your hormones, and things are definitely going to be harder for you.

I am glad that you are taking good care of your physical health. Eating right, drinking lots of water and taking vitamins are good things to be doing. I am also glad that you have been checked by your doctors, and they have ruled out any other problems besides what you are already facing. To take care of your emotional health, you might want to consider getting some support to cope with the stress in your life and to deal with any depression you are experiencing.

Continue to take care of yourself. Hugs!
