3 Nights in hospital?? 3 Nights in hospital??

Re: 3 Nights in hospital??

I stayed three nights. I was given an option to stay a fourth, but I was up and alert and beginning to get a bit bored, plus I wanted to see my cats.

The first day after surgery, I was extremely woozy and just wanted to sleep. Also, I wasn't allowed anything to eat that day, and nothing to drink except water. I expect I was getting glucose through my IV. I didn't feel hungry - just sleepy! Once in the morning and once in the afternoon, a nurse hauled me out of bed and took me for a walk around the ward and then "suggested" that I sit in an armchair. I didn't last long in the armchair before I went back to bed.

The second day I was much more alert and was allowed a "progressive liquid" diet, i.e., liquids and soft solids such as yogurt. I walked laps around the ward and the rest of the time sat in the armchair reading.

I got solid food for breakfast and lunch on the third day and had all my accoutrements removed - epidural catheter, Foley catheter and IV. I was released that afternoon with instructions to take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain as needed.

So by the time I was released, I was alert, sitting upright and walking around, eating solid food, relieving myself and off narcotics.
