Re: The awkward question...

6 weeks tomorrow and not entering my head either.. Child birth is a natural process.. A hysterectomy is not. Having sex to early may present a torn vaginal cuff (intestines can protrude into vaginal canal) if this rips open.. Infections and such..

Some women did not obey docs orders and had sex before cleared and nothing happened, some women did and tore their cuff open and needed another surgery to repair it..

Not worth it to me in my opinion.. We are waiting until I am 12 weeks post op just to be sure. My doc said it really takes about 12 weeks to fully heal. I am all for waiting to insure my physical safty..

Re: The awkward question...

Definitely don't try it early. You only have one chance to heal right the first time. I have a friend whose vaginal cuff tore and it was a nightmare.

DO ask your doctor about "outercourse!" You might be pleasantly surprised by his/her answer and they've been asked before.

Re: The awkward question...

I am having a DvH on Wed...my dr told me 6 MONTHS No Sex!! I have come to terms with this after reading about some poor sisters who had terrible complications from trying to soon. When I asked my dr why no one else on hystersisters says 6 months...he said it is really recommended 3 but he'd prefer we wait just to heal right. I hope you all stay well and get this info from your dr!!

Re: The awkward question...

My doc doesn't clear till 8 weeks but prefers people to wait till 10 so I figured we would wait till 12. 6 months seems a bit long but I could see since we dont fully heal till about that long..

Re: The awkward question...

I had TVH 3 weeks ago and, for me personally, the vagina is still closed until further notice. My surgery took about 4 hours. So, that was 4 hours of the weighted speculum pressing on everything, 4 hours of cutting, tugging, stretching, pulling. I still have so much swelling (vaginal and rectal) and I can feel it. Surgeon said swelling will not go down for about 6 weeks. Plus, if they take your cervix, they will do a lot of repair work including the vaginal cuff and that's a lot of sutures that need time to heal/dissolve. I would say better to be safe than sorry! The best way to heal with no complications is to follow doctor's orders.

Re: The awkward question...

When the doctor came to see me at the hospital she looked right at my husband shook her finger and said "nothing in the vagina for 6 weeks or you are risking her health and possibly a longer wait." My husband was mortified that maybe she thought he was a sex addict! LOL

I am almost 3 weeks out and that is the furthest thing from my mind. My husband and I normally have a very active relationship but we are getting by with cuddling. He wants to wait even longer since I have read him some of the post-op threads about people going to early. Maybe you want to go over to the post-op area and read some of them to your husband? There are other ways to be intimate.

Re: The awkward question...

My DR told me pre op 8 weeks after my dVh/BSO for sex. At my 8 week check up, she said I looked great but added 2 more weeks to be totally safe and only if I was ready. We waited till 12 weeks mostly due hubby's fear. My libido pre op was HIGH and sex was great. Post op, it is Mount Everest high and sex is STELLAR!!! I asked at my 3 week appt. about outercourse and was cleared but no oral. Again, it was awesome. Do not cheat. The possible consequences aren't worth it. Your DR will be fair and you'll live with the wait.

LOL! Hope you enjoyed your night out and your wine... I'm waiting for St. Patrick's Day (night out with my fellow Irish ex-patriates in Paris) to have more wine! Until then chocolate is my sex replacement!

4 hours? Wow. Is that normal? For some reason I thought it was an hour and a half.

My husband isn't the one who was curious. I am. He is more than willing to wait 6 months if that is what it takes. I'm the one who always pushes things too early. I will def check with my doctor to make sure I know what she expects and I will follow it. It sounds like I won't even want to so it shouldn't be a problem.
