2014: vision changes 9 months post hysterectomy

I was told by my eye doctor that within a year I would be wearing bifocals. He said this was a common side effect the doctors don't often tell their patients. My vision has gotten worse and its only been 9 months. Is this side effect true?

Re: vision changes post hysterctomy

I needed a new prescription 6 months later. But I am wondering if I already needed them and just noticed it cause I was home for 8 weeks reading all the time. However, my eyes did go blurry for awhile when I was at home.. Eye doc said the surgery had nothing to do with it. I guess it depends which eye doc you see.. I had heard the same thing though...

Re: vision changes post hysterctomy

Vision changes come with age. When I was 35 <pre hyst> I asked my eye doctor about doing the lasic surgery. He said within 5 years my vision would probably start to change. Almost 5 years to the day, I needed bifocals as I was becoming more farsighted.

Re: vision changes post hysterctomy

HRT can improve vision as well.

re: hysterectomy with oophorectomy.

It doesn't always matter whether the ovaries were removed, or not.

This is not well known, but GYN surgery can shut down ovary function.

It is called Ovarian Infarction.

It happens because of the shock of the surgery or because small blood vessels or nerves are injured during the surgery.

Best of luck.
