Have to pee A LOT since bladder sling....normal?

I am 8 weeks post-op from having a hysterectomy (kept ovaries), bladder sling, rectocele repair and vaginal vault repair. I am still having a lot of trouble with my bowels, and recently, I have started peeing a lot. My bladder only started working again around week six, so I am wondering if this is normal? I got up 3 times last night to go, and so far today, I've gone about 8 times. I am going about every 1&1/2 hours. Anyone else dealing or dealt with this?

Have to pee A LOT since bladder sling....normal?

It took a long time for my bladder and bowels to feel normal again..probably a good 3 months...it does get better. I have always had to pee alot and after my first morning cup of coffee, I can probably go 5 times in an hour and 1/2....mention it to your doctor, hopefully it is just going to take some time for it to retrain itself...as far as the bowels, I know for quite awhile I would have such lower abdominal pain with each build up before I went that it would seem like it was never going to get better and then it seems like one day it was gone and back to normal....hoping you feel better soon!

Have to pee A LOT since bladder sling....normal?

Stargazers,

I think it may be of some use to you if you went to the doctor and got some detrusitol of detrol ( i think you may call it that) or some other form of bladder relaxant to help get you through this irritable period that your bladder seems to be going through.

3 times a night isn't much fun I know ( I'm still on two and its a killer!) but I think that if you took some meds it might help to calm things down especially as your bladder was so 'stressed' shown by not working for so long.

Also if your bowels are not working right this can make the bladder symptoms 10x worse I can tell you from my own experience. The pressure build up in your bowels puts added pressure on your bladder area and I always had very bad days with my bladder when I was constipated etc....they are just connected and one makes the other one worse.

I have no idea what you are trying for the bowel problem but rest assured it will not be helping with the frequency of urination. If you can get that one sorted I'm sure some of your bladder problems would calm down a bit.

Best wishes

Have to pee A LOT since bladder sling....normal?

Thank you so much for your input, nnodg. I went to a colorectal surgeon yesterday and had a defogram to see what is going on with my bowels. Hopefully, the results will shed some light on what the problem might be. When I go to my urogyn next week, I will talk to her about a bladder relaxant. Thanks again.

Have to pee A LOT since bladder sling....normal?

How long does it take to pee normal after surgery.. this will be 4 weeks for me.. I had a subpub cath for 3 weeks they took it out and then I had to go to the ER and get a regular cath put in for another week now every 4 hours I am self cathing... I pee about 25 ml and that is it... How long does it take? three months?

Can't say..but you have had a cath for so long that it does take alot of time for your urethra to heal and for your bladder to get back to normal. Have you seen your doc again since ER visit? I would ask for something maybe like Pyridium which helped me tremendously in not having to feel the frequency. Good luck to you

I guess I didn't say this correctly... I can't pee... I just get maybe 25 ml's and then when I cath I get 250ml's What would Pyridium do

Actually pyridium may not be good for that..hmmm...I know it helped with the irritation of my urethra from catheter and also helps with bladder frequency feeling...sorry...I don't know what would help in the case when you can't pee other than to say hopefully it is because the bladder takes a long time to heal and get back to normal..Have you spoken to your surgeon since trip to ER? He would be the one to tell you if this is entirely normal and needs more time....

Tuck,

People vary so much with this issue. Some women are able to pee shortly after surgery, with others it takes longer. I was one of the unlucky ones. I had to self-cath for 6 weeks! When my bladder started working again, it took some time to work itself out. I still have issues with my urine stream stopping and restarting several times before it eventually empties. Since you are able to get a little out on your own, my guess is that the amount will continue to slowly increase, and soon you won't have to cath at all.

Tuck,
I had pvh a&p repair and bladder sling on 11/5, I had a cath the first week, after that I was self cathing, and not peeing at all-we tried muscle relaxants, bladder stimulants (to cause it to contract-which ended up being very painful) and nothing worked, finally yesterday around noon I had outpatient surgery to lower sling a bit, and by yesterday at 2:00 pm was finally urinating on my own! Not a full strong stream yet, but a least it is something! I think it is different for everyone, and the best thing to do is talk to your doctor-or nurse-my doctor's nurse was extremely helpful and supportive. Hope this helps.
