Vaginal Cancer??

Hello All! I had a hysterectomy 12/14/2020. I am healing quickly and feeling pretty great actually. I had several issues that led to the hysterectomy but mainly it was for CIN 3 and VIN 3 cells in my cervix and vagina, respectively (thanks to HPV). However, after my surgery, my test results came back showing vaginal cancer. I never knew this was even a thing and apparently it's rare so there isn't a lot of information out there. I have an appointment with a gyno-oncologist the first week of January which feels SO far away. I know I am getting way ahead but the thought of radiation or chemo revolts me and my regular gyno thinks I might need another surgery. Feeling overwhelmed but trying to stay positive. I started some reading on how to fight cancer and nourish your body with the right foods and started making dietary changes already. Also researching naturopath doctors to help my body heal itself.

Anyone else out there have experience with vaginal cancer?? Or healing your cancer without radiation and/or chemo?

Thank you in advance!

Re: Vaginal Cancer??

I'm very sorry you've received this diagnosis but am glad to hear you're doing well otherwise. You're correct that vaginal cancer is one of the more rare types, and we haven't had many ladies with that diagnosis. But, you can try some searches here on our forum (vaginal cancer, etc.) to find previous discussions which might be helpful. We also have a GYN Cancer section under the Articles tab at the top of the page which might provide additional information.

For now, please try not to let your mind get too far ahead of things as it always paints the darkest of pictures. You'll actually feel "better" once you've met with the gyn/onc and get more specific information and a plan in place. For that appointment, write down any questions or concerns you might have and take someone else with you, if possible (another set of ears). Oh, and be sure to get copies of your path results, etc., so you'll have them for your own reference.

I know this all feels terrifying and overwhelming, but you absolutely can do this. Just keep taking deep breaths and one step at a time. Sending hugs and every good thought your way.

Vaginal Cancer??

Hello,
I don’t have any advice, but can relate to your worries. I haven’t even had my surgery yet (Jan 4, 2021), but I know I have uterine cancer and the doctor said I would likely need vaginal radiation and some chemo. I think that is more scary to me than the surgery. I hope all is going well for you!

Vaginal Cancer??

Thank you!!

I've been doing research online and reading books and reaching out to other people who have had cancer. I also scheduled an appointment with a naturopathic oncologist so I know what all of my treatment options are. Just taking these steps has made me feel better, like I have some control and can do something about it.

Good luck to you! I will say the surgery and recovery for me was very easy over all, especially compared to what I was expecting. Just try to remain positive and keep your mind busy with good things!

Vaginal Cancer??

Hello,

In 2010 I had endo cancer II a, G2. I had surgery and brachytherapy.
After few years I started to feel pain in left side of my vagina. My oncologist told me that it is Bartholin gland and nothing to worry about it.
In September 2020 I found out that it is Bartholin adenoid cyst carcinoma. Very rare vaginal cancer. I had two surgeries and now I am on radiotherapy treatment.
I start to take LDN (low dose naltroxene), I know many people who survived very advanced cancers with it.

Thank you for sharing! I hope you are recovering from surgery and feeling well with your treatment.

What were your surgeries like? Did you have any lymph nodes removed?

So sorry this is happening to you. Cancer is such an evil thing to fight. Always seems like they are still experimenting after all these year. I won’t know until Jan 12 how bad my cancer is and what next steps are. Sending you hugs!

I recovering very well, thank you!
First surgery was removing Bartholin cyst, after bad pathology results and positive margins second surgery included removing of more vaginal tissue and lymph nodes too. Lymph nodes was clean, still because of high grade of cancer and high possibility of recurrence radiotherapy was nessesary.
