Upcoming hysterectomy 7/14: All The Emotions

It’s a rough day emotionally. I had my pre-surgery COVID testing (per hospital policy) and was told I had to be on mandatory quarantine until surgery. Was not expecting this at all. So all the rest of the weekend plans were cancelled and here I sit at home. My hospital bag is just about ready, I’ve done all my tasks on my list, and now it’s time to wait out the last three days. Some things popped up yesterday that had my anxiety through the roof. Those things are taken care of now but don’t know what the outcome will be. So now I’m feeling low and tired. Im ready to get things done and be in recovery.

Re: All The Emotions

Hi Me. Rukia -

I am sorry you are having such a rough day and your plans were disrupted. The quarantine seems to be the norm these days with the pandemic - your hospital is not the only one. This makes the days before surgery even harder. I am glad your other items are taken care of and hope it all turns out okay.

Maybe it is time to break out the DVD collection and have a movie marathon of your all time best films. Those can be nice distractions. Maybe someone can also get some takeout food from a restaurant that you like.

and take care...

Re: All The Emotions

I had to take 2 covid tests. 1 was thru the mail 2 weeks before surgery (Spit in a cup) and then another one (blood test) for covid the day of my surgery. My surgery was done at a womens surgical center that specializes in hysterectomies, was pretty quiet there! It was scary walking in there alone the day of surgery.

Watch some funny movies, laughing is always a good distraction. It will be over before you know it! The moment you wake up after surgery is such a wonderful feeling! Know you made it through and that now its all over. Now I can say, I am officially no longer terrified of having surgery. I hope I never need surgery again BUT it was not nearly as horrible as I thought it would be.

You were super encouraging on my post earlier. I'm super anxious too. I feel like the covid testing and limited support team at hospital because of this pandemic has added a whole other anxiety then surgeries past. I feel like I dont know what to do with myself and frankly just want to get it over with so I can start recovering. This year has been quite extreme for me as it has most people and now to have major surgery in the midst of everything just about puts the cherry on top.
