Upcoming hysterectomy 18th August: Surgery during Corona

I’ve been told that my husband cannot enter the hospital with me due to corona virus restrictions. If all goes as planned laparoscopic, they may even send me home the same day. I’m nervous about being alone. Has anyone else gone through this?

Re: Surgery during Corona

Curlygurl42,
Welcome, I am glad you checked in here.
I am sorry that you are not able to bring someone into the hospital with you. Due to safety precautions, this rule seems to be the norm in most medical centers. Wondering if maybe to ease you mind, you could talk to your husband on your cell phone until you are heading into surgery? It is common that even pre-covid ladies might be released same day. Please know that your doctor and others on the medical team have your best interest at heart, you are in good hands. Try to relax, spend the week lining up help, stock piling meals and getting your home recovery area ready for your release. Remember when you get home, your one and only focus should be on Healing. I wish you the best of luck on your surgery day and in recovery.
Take Care

Re: Surgery during Corona

This happened to me as well. They told me one person could be with me and when we got to the hospital that morning they told me the guidelines had changed. It was very difficult to get that news right before surgery.

It was hard to be alone but the recovery room nurse was very nice to me and sat with me the entire time. He basically did not leave my side so I felt safe.

When my son appeared to take me home I cried when I saw him. I didn't realize how hard it was to not have a family member with me - but honestly it was fine and I was okay. I did go home the same day. I didn't like that at the time and looking back on It I would have preferred to have stayed overnight. Again, I was fine and it all worked out.

Wishing you the best and hoping you can work out a strategy to be able to deal with this in a way that will be most helpful to you and your family!

Re: Surgery during Corona

I was also alone, had to walk in alone, i cried the entire time until I was out. Then i remember nothing. I did go home the same day. I got there at 9am and left at 6pm. I went to a surgical center, not a hospital. It all worked out tho, once you are knocked out, it goes by in seconds. I dont remember waking up, the next thing I remember was i was in a chair! I dont remember laying down at or getting up. You will do great and it will be over so fast!

Re: Surgery during Corona

Hi!

I have surgery on Wednesday. It's the same thing for me. Hubby can drop me off at the front door. He tends to get nervous about stuff like this so I'm OK with it. I'm sure I will be a ball of nerves the day of though. I'm getting my xiphoid removed as well so I am staying overnight.

Good luck to you!

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 8/18: Surgery during Corona

Hi. Had my hysterectomy on 31 July, late afternoon. I knew I was staying at least overnight.
Hubby dropped me off, I went in and up to pre-op. Spent some of the time on this forum commenting on how things were going.
I was nauseous when I woke up and was glad not to have anyone around. Ended up staying an extra day due to a hospital screw-up. Except for being PO'd, I was actually glad to have some "me time".
Sunday morning was released. Walked out the door to DH.
Take it as a positive and try not to let it get to you. Hugs.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 8/18: Surgery during Corona

I am in for surgery on the 19th. Same here, nobody allowed in with me and will be dropped off and picked up. I am glad you will have your hubby to help you recover. Allow him to help you as much as possible. Let him know how much it means to you to have him there for you afterwards.
Also, take a small notebook and pen with you to write things down that the dr tells you. You may not recall a lot of it. hugs and prayers for a good recovery.

Upcoming hysterectomy 18th August: Surgery during Corona

June 18, no visitors...I drove myself to the hospital...my husband and son picked me up and my son drove my car home. It made no sense to me to inconvenience either or cause them a lost day of work when they were not allowed to be present...you'll be fine...I was rarely alone as people were popping in and out...the two hours I waited prior to going to the OR went by quickly.

Upcoming hysterectomy 18th August: Surgery during Corona

My surgery was last week (Aug 4). I was very nervous!! My husband stayed in the parking lot and received texts during surgery for updates. The hospital staff was very good at making me feel at ease. It seemed like every staff member that simply passed by me on my way to surgery, made a point to speak to me with a smile, telling me good luck! The Holding room for surgery had a couple of very social nurses that kept me entertained and the after care was no exception! I stayed overnight and the smiles continued! It was a good experience! I hope your surgery day brings lots of the same comforts!

June 5. My family dropped me off at 5:30 on Friday morning, and I didn't see them until Monday evening when they picked me up. I was okay until I started crying Monday morning/afternoon. I don't know why I got so emotional.
