Separate Bed ?

Hi,

I have TAH scheduled for next week, and this weekend I will be cleaning the house and getting things "ready". I was thinking that I should make the guest room my recovery room. DH thinks that I should be in our room so he can make sure I'm ok. Problem is that he snores....

Any advice?

Thanks!

Separate Bed ?

Take some pain meds at night and you won't hear him at all. If that doesn't work, a baby monitor comes to mind. We used walkie-talkies.

Separate Bed ?

I slept in our bedroom and dh slept in the guest room at the other end of the hallway. We used walkie-talkies too. Dh and ds each had one. If you don't have walkies or monitors around, cell phones are just as good.

Separate Bed ?

We haven't discussed but my plan is I keep our master bedroom which has the master bath for privacy (especially when I have visitors) and DH across the hall in a guest bedroom for just a few nights and then he will probably move back in. Time will tell!

Even though he will be directly across the hall, I like the idea of a baby monitor which we do happen to have.

Oh my MR2574! I just noticed we are scheduled for the same date AND the same City. I don't think we are allowed to reference specific hospitals so will you by any chance be at the baby factory at 270 and 40?

Separate Bed ?

I thought about using the guest room but was out voted by hubby and it all worked out fine. I did remember to keep a pillow to protect my tummy area so the when ds jumped into bed with us I was protected.

Separate Bed ?

I had a TAH two weeks ago today!! My first night home I slept in my own bed with my DH in it as well! Fortunately mine doesn't snore! But I had no problem with it at all. The first couple of nights I was up a couple of times to pee but after that no worries.
I have to say I am doing GREAT! NO swelly belly (haven't had since day 5), I've been driving since this past Friday, no issues other than being tired by 9:30 or so at night. I don't nap though so perhaps that is why.
So even if you want to sleep separately for a few days I highly suggest having him sleep in the guest room - you will sleep better being in your own bed!
Good luck!

Separate Bed ?

I agree that if you sleep separately, you should keep your own bed. You'll sleep better! My biggest issue is that I haven't slept well since surgery and get up and down a lot to go to the bathroom. So, separate may be better for your dh too, in the short term. My DH and I did separate for a week.

We used walkie-talkies too...they are great!

Separate Bed ?

I had knee surgery last fall, and I slept on the couch, in the family room with the guest bathroom near by. We used cell phones because my dh would not wake up with the walkie talkie but he did if the phone rang. He had to get up and help me up a couple times a night to the bathroom (Lord bless him) But the reason I did not sleep in our bed is he has an adorable habit of wrapping himself around me or hugging me while he sleeps, usually I dont mind it but that would have hurt my knee and I am thinking that I will go through the roof if he throws his arm across my belly post op while he sleeps. Even the thought of it makes me shudder now. So I will definetly be camping out on the couch for as long as necessary..Good luck when you head to the castle and be kind to yourself when you become a princess!

Hadn't thought about that!!

I am so glad you are mentioning this. I am fortunate to have my mother come stay with us during the first week of my surgery (we will need the help) I have thought so much as to where to put her (all our bedrooms are inhabited) I haven't even given consideration to sharing the bed. My husband is a flopper/snuggler/smotherer. Soooo glad I saw your post and have time to figure it out.. some more furniture rearranging in my future.

Separate Bed ?

My husband and I didn't separate but stayed in our same bed. We have a king bed and I kept a pillow between us to keep me protected from his knees and elbows. I also found that pillow useful to recline my back against in a semi side sleeping position since I found sleeping on my side, my preferred sleeping position, uncomfortable the first few days. It's worked out fine.
