Hi there I'm new here. Having a abdominal hysterectomy in 5 weeks I will be keeping 1 I ovary but im taking hrt
Now. Any thing else I should now ?

I am sorry you have to have a hysterectomy, but am glad you found this site! I know you feel overwhelmed right now. I remember being where you are now - it seems like just yesterday, but it was over two years ago.

One place you might want to start is on our pre-op page. This will give you some information about what you are facing. This is MAJOR SURGERY, and recovery from this can take some time - think weeks, not days. You will need time off work and help at home for a while.

Hi, prayers for your upcoming surgery. I found getting a reacher, grabber helps because bending over will be hard. Small trial size shampoo bottles for the shower, large bottles will be too heavy. Large granny panties will be more comfy. Soft boxers without underware at night are comfy. Take it easy during recovery and pamper the princess! Read the pre op posts here for more great info! I'd suggest getting an abdominal binder and ice packs. I don't know what I'd do without my binder good luck!

An abdominal binder looks like a very wide belt that covers your abdomen to help during surgery. The site sells them, but you can find them other places. Click here to see one.

I never used one during my recovery - I did not feel I needed one. Some women swear by them. It is really a personal choice.

Start cooking meals and putting them in the freezer. Start making a to do list on things that will keep you occupied during the next 6-8 week (books, movies, this web site). Make a note that anything heavier than a gallon of milk will be too heavy to lift. Look after yourself!!
