Radiologist report showed small ovaries and uterus ultrasound measurements...

Hi, I'm new here. I was just curious if anyone's vaginal or abdominal ultrasound report had measurements that seemed smaller than what they should be.

I have had two C-sections and also a tubal ligation over 10 years ago. The report showed that both ovaries had follicular cysts bilaterally.

I'm scheduled for a TVH-BSO for frequent heavy menstrual bleeding. In the past year, the problems with my cycle have increased to the point where I'm averaging about one good week a month.

I have read many posts about large ovaries or uterus problems but haven't read very many about small ovaries and uterus problems.

If others have had similiar problems I would greatly appreciate any information you would be willing to share.

Did the doctor indicate that it was a problem to have a small uterus and overies? My ovaries and uterus were normal sized which made it possible to have a totally laproascopic surgery. Much easier on the body. But every one's case is different.
Good luck.

Radiologist report showed small ovaries and uterus ultrasound measurements...

The doctor indicated that my ovaries were not producing enough hormones and that was what may be causing my uterus and ovaries to decrease in size.

The ovarian cysts were probably from having only slight hormone surges and that more than likely the tubal ligation that I had over 10 years ago led to the premature ovarian failure. I'm 39, which is fairly young to be having the menopausal symptoms I have been having.

He didn't mention anything about laporascopic surgery. I will mention that to him at my pre-op doctors visit.

I am also wondering if the ultrasound technician was not very good. I had noticed that there was an ultrasound college course book on the counter during my ultrasound exam and the technician did not seem very experienced in taking the measurements which concerns me about the possibility that the measurements may be incorrect.

I am also concerned that the ultrasound was innaccurate and that there will be unforeseen problems that may cause my vaginal hysterectomy to be changed to an abdominal hysterectomy because of the difference in recovery.

Thanks for your response, Cken. I will ask my doctor about the laporascopy technique.

Thank you Lisaanne2, its good to know that I'm not the only one with a shrinking uterus.

Prior to your surgery were you having any menopausal type of symptoms?

I have been experiencing night sweats, insomnia and dryness but my menstrual cycle has never stopped. In fact, it has increased frequency to an average of 22 to 24 days in between cycles and lasts around 7-10 days with a heavy flow. Yuck!

Anyway, I'm glad that your surgery went well and I look forward to having my hysterectomy at the end of this month.

Babbbaloo,

This site is a great place to do some research on LSH and you seem pretty good at doing research anyway from what I have read. I will try to refrain from preaching my own point of view since it would be totally inappropriate, but you’ve still got time to consider all of your options and get answers. This site was so valuable to me when I was trying to make up my own mind.

I will be watching to see your progress after surgery and wish you the best.

I too am 39. I told my sister I was having surgery to stop anyone from throwing me a 40th birthday party!

Take care and don’t stress yourself out.

Thank you, Cken

I welcome all opinions and information. I haven't had time to read that much about the different types of surgery options and I'm not that familiar with LSH but will be looking into that.

I'm extremely worried about the thought of HRT with the removal of my ovaries but since my ovaries have atrophied and I cannot handle the thought of having such terrible PMS or dealing with ovarian cysts anymore, removing the ovaries seems like the only real option for my situation. I don't really know though.

Anyway, I appreciate all of the helpful information from the kind people on this website and will continue to post my concerns and progress.
