TVH -can they really remove the endo this way?

I already found my answer, sounds like its not all that feasible.

I know I'm having a vaginal procedure, but I haven't confirmed w/my doc whether I'll be having tvh or lavh; praying for the lavh, so she can at least TRY to get to the endo. I'll find out more next week.

I guess there's a chance I may need to get through this and then find an endo specialist for the endo.

Re: TVH -can they really remove the endo this way?

Hi ba77co -

From this site I have learned that a hysterectomy will not cure endo; nor will removing your ovaries. You need an expert to remove the disease. Here are articles that may provide information:
Can Endometriosis Return after a Hysterectomy?
Should I Keep My Ovaries or Not if I Have Endometriosis?

We do have a large library of Endometriosis Articles that you can read through. You also may want to get a another opinion of an endo expert now, before your surgery.

Whatever you do, make the right decision for you.

TVH -can they really remove the endo this way?

Hi marestail, hyst is for a diff reason but thx . My urogyn. sounded pretty educated and answered all the questions correctly when I interviewed her on endo excision.

Was more curious if folks have any experience w tvh and endo.

After I posted this question I did some research and edited my post. Since I couldn't delete it. I found tvh is not as helpful for endo (i'm hoping I'm scheduled for lavh)

Seems most docs who do the hyst, aren't as good w endo and those who are good w endo don't do the hyst. surgeries.

That is correct: a TVH is not the best choice when there is endo involved, so a surgeon with skills and experience isn't likely to recommend a TVH. There's no room with that method to even see or reach the endo to remove it.

Endo can exist whether or not there is a uterus, yet many general OB/GYNs still remove the uterus thinking it is going to solve the problem. The key for successfully treating endo is removing the endo with an excision method--something not many surgeons can do, not removing the reproductive organs.
