Question about Bowel Prep Go-Lytely

I'm supposed to do this bowel prep. It says eat a full breakfast before 10 AM. Between 12 PM and 6 PM drink a gallon of Go-lytely.

I said something about having to drink all that and my doctor said that I could stop when it was all "clear".

Anyone taken this type of bowel prep? Is it as bad as I'm imagining?

Sorry if TMI, but after I go #2 a couple times in one day it's really sore. If I get diarrhea ( which is what I'm expecting with a bowel prep ) then I'm triple sore.

Any suggestions? Please tell me your experiences with bowel prep. It's four weeks away, but I'm worried about it and need my mind eased.

Thanks,
Lisa

Question about Bowel Prep Go-Lytely

Hi Lisa -

I have heard some "unpleasant" comments about Go-Lytely. I have never used it, so I can't offer a personal opinion. I can, however, tell you that Mag. Cit. produces the same results and I am not looking forward to that experience! Overall, it isn't a terrible experience, just one that I wouldn't opt to take part in on a regular basis.

Take care -

Question about Bowel Prep Go-Lytely

That name always cracked me up!! One thing about it you never go lightly. It is no different then any other powerfull laxative. I too have issues with the #2, I keep a jar of hygiene wipes, clean the area after each time, you can get the wal-mart brand for a couple dollars it has witch hazel it helps soothe the area. Hope that helps

Question about Bowel Prep Go-Lytely

My advice it to NOT use toilet paper to wipe.....use Baby wipes or something similar because you will be soooo sore. I used Huggies baby wipes with Aloe and they worked great. Good luck with your surgery.

Question about Bowel Prep Go-Lytely

Ditto the wipes, don't even think about using toilet paper. It will definitely be like diarrhea. My problem is that after the first 4 glasses, it's going "in" faster than it's coming "out", then I have to fight extreme nausea to get the rest down. Don't know if your prep allows for it, but I was able to suck on a piece of peppermint candy between glasses at that point to quell the nausea. I wish you the best of luck with the bowel prep and the surgery.

Question about Bowel Prep Go-Lytely

My bowel prep is now only 2 days away! I can't believe it!! Where did the time go?
Anyhow, mine consists of 4 Dulcolax tablets, a lot of MiraLax (can't remember the amount offhand) and a Fleet's enema to top it all off.

Luckily, we have lots of reading material in our bathroom and I'm plenty stocked on books at the moment. Gotta love the library! And yeah, I have the witch hazel wipes too.

Question about Bowel Prep Go-Lytely

Hey ladies,

Thanks for your posts!

Oh my. Well, I will take your suggestions to heart. I'll make a list. I'm glad that I was told not to use TP. Thanks for the warning! I use the wipes by Cottonelle? I don't know the name, but it's a green container with a puppy on it. I always use them during my cycle anyway, so I guess I should get some more of them on hand.

This bowel prep stuff scares me since I have such a sore bottom to begin with.

Realistically, how many times will I "go-lytely"?

Lisa
