Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Feb 12, 2017
Hi! I'm 38 and my surgery is scheduled for noon on 2/15. I am not nervous right now but I am reading all the threads to make sure I am as prepared as possible. I absolutely hate pain so I'm hoping the meds are tolerable as I have history of nausea. I've basically cancelled all scheduled plans for at least the next 6 weeks to allow myself proper healing time. Unfortunately 2 of my 3 kids birthdays are during this time. Nevertheless I am as ready as I can possibly be and eager to get back to a functional life. I will be having my right ovary removed, cervix, uterus and both tubes removed. My doctor said she will check my left ovary while in there since I have fibroids there as well. I am so thank for my husband through this process thus far. He has really been my rock and so patient and understand through all of my pain.
Best wishes to all of us this week!

Hi jamilynn1004,
The nerves can get the better of us pre-op, and this is why many women feel pre-op is the hardest part of this journey. Deep breaths and keep busy! Remember you surgical team will be doing what they do best - taking care of you!
I am sending hugs that your hysterectomy resolves the pain you've been enduring. For more info & helpful links, please take a look at my Post #37 on Page 4 of this thread.
Sending hugs for a safe surgery & uneventful recovery!

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Feb 12, 2017
Hi All! My name is Tammy, I'm 46yo & having a TVH on 2/16. I have grade 3 cystocele & grade1-2 rectocele. My doctor will do a bladder sling & ligament repair.
After that surgery, for some reason thought it would be a great idea to throw in a tummy tuck, as I am very self conscious of my abdominal flap hanging down. Now I'm really nervous about pain since I'll be doing a double surgery.
I'm also concerned about caring for my kiddos afterwards- with my youngest being 2yo. My weight limitations are 5 pounds for 6 weeks. I do have help for 3 weeks & will figure things out for the rest, as my husband travels for work.
Best wishes to all of you this upcoming week and the weeks of recovery ahead.

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Feb 12, 2017
You are likely spending the last few days (or hours!) before your hysterectomy getting everything in order. There’s so much to do! Get things organized at work, at home, the family, and yourself. There are things to clean, to buy, to cook, to freeze, and to pack for the hospital. Here are some articles to help you get everything in order:

Do This – Not That: Preparing for Hysterectomy
10 Tips for Preparing for Your Hysterectomy
Do what you what you’re able, but try not to stress about getting everything just the way you want it. There comes a point where you have to let it go and know everything will work out all right. It’s important to spend some of your preparing time by preparing yourself physically and emotionally. You need to sleep, drink lots of water, clear your mind, and spend time with your family. Being well rested and happy helps put you on the best foot for your recovery.

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Feb 12, 2017
I am so glad you have been able to read through threads to help prepare yourself for surgery and recovery. HysterSisters was my life line through recovery . . . I didn't know much about recovery until I found HS. I read my Recovery Thread every day and finally realized no one would bite me. I hope you will join us after your surgery.
One of the big things to help with pain control is to keep ahead of it and take your meds on time. Most doctors also recommend taking ibuprofen in-between doses . . . check with your doctor to see if s/he agrees with that. When you arrive at the hospital and they start prepping you for surgery, be sure to reiterate with your medical team the meds that have made you nauseated before so they can make plans accordingly. on setting the 6 weeks aside to give yourself time to heal. I am sorry that your kids birthdays fall within those weeks . . . you'll be able to celebrate with them, just not quite like you usually would. They want Mom to be out of pain . . . they will understand.
Big Kudos to your DH for his patience and understanding . . . that speaks volumes.
Love to you dear.

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Feb 12, 2017
It is good to meet you dear. You are definitely having a lot of work done . . . and throwing in a tummy tuck too. I don't blame you . . . one surgery and one recovery. Your medical team will be doing all they can to keep your pain controlled . . . be vocal if the meds do not cover it. We all heal differently and have different pain thresh holds . . . and pain meds are not one size fits all. Once you get home, be sure to keep ahead of the pain by taking your meds on time so you don't have to play catch up. Ask your doctor about taking ibuprofen in-between . . . that can help with the control.
I am so glad you have help with your kids for 3 weeks . . . we will pray that additional help for the last three weeks will be found so you can get the rest you need.
My surgery was a dvTH/BSO, rectocele and enterocele repairs, bladder ligament strengthening and labiaplasty. If you haven't seen it already, please check post #36 on page 4. I have listed things that I found very helpful . . . I hope you find them helpful also.
Best wishes on your surgery dear . . . remember we are here for you.
