Not sure what to do

Hello! Here’s a little synopsis of my health history. Diagnosed with endometriosis at 18 through laparoscopic surgery. Started bc pills to help control that. At 25 lost a pregnancy at 11 weeks, my OB ran every test under the sun to find out why, and was then diagnosed with Hashimotos and discovered I have a genetic disorder MTHFR. Had 2 pregnancies, 2008 and 2010, that went well. 2010 I had fraternal twins. Kept using bc pills or ring after that because I did not want more kids. Had a tubal in 2015 in hopes to stop bc. Then I started having migraines, and after trying medications for that went back on bc and they were relieved. Last summer I had an ultrasound because of excessive menstral pain that showed a fibroid. This past October I had gastric bypass surgery, and have lost 85 pounds since then, and I’m almost to my goal of 100 lb weight loss. I experienced period irregularity before the weight loss surgery, but it was always controlled by bc and when it wasn’t, my doctor would switch methods. I’ve used pill, IUD, ring, progesterone, now I’m using Slynd. Since the weight loss surgery my periods have been insanely irregular. I will have one for 10 days, stop sometimes for 2 weeks, then have another. Last cycle was early and lasted 15 days. At my annual in March my OB said we’ve tried so many thing that I could either have an ablation or talk about a more permanent solution. I know that the thyroid disease and weight loss are main contributors to the irregularity. I know that an ablation could help, if successful, for a few years. My main concerns are that the ablation won’t be successful, even if it is when my periods return will I be in the same position now with just switching pills every year, and with the MTHFR, I’m already at an increased risk for blood clots, so I’d like to stop taking them. I want to keep my ovaries unless my doctor sees a medical need to removal them. I have an appointment with him on May 7th to talk more in-depth about options. I’ve tried a lot of things, I’m 38 and at a point where the irregularity is interfering with other aspects of my life. Intimacy is almost non existent at this point because I’m practically always on my period. Any advice or suggestions are welcome. I know this is a lot of info, but I’m happy to be here where there are people who can relate to my situation.

Hi RiverSong:

How did your doctor appointment go on Friday? It sounds like you have tried a lot of different options

Were you able to get any more clarity on what should happen next?

Sending huge cyberhugs

It’s basically been determined that even though I have a couple gynecological issues, they are not the main cause of my irregular and frequent bleeding. It has more to do with my extreme weight loss and Hashimotos. So for now I am going to schedule a Minerva ablation. My doctor is confident that I will know by this fall if it fails. Plus if it does, and I choose a hysterectomy, my insurance is less likely to deny it since I’ll have done so many other things to try and solve this issue.

Re: Not sure what to do

I had many ablations done 4, and my periods were still irregular and I was spotting all the time. Also due to my fibroids it was pressing against my bladder causing me to pee myself all the time. I was just feed up and I went ahead and did a hysterectomy and I kept my ovaries. The recovery was something to contended with but I’m glad I did it. 14 weeks later no more bleeding all the time, no more peeing myself. I don’t regret it.

Not sure what to do

I have severe endometriosis and I’m having a complete hysterectomy Monday. It was suggested to me by my specialist because she has done 2 robotic excisions and it comes back really quick. This last time I grew a 6cm cyst in less than 6 months post op. I was always hesitant because I’ve never been able to have kids but this time I know it’s my only choice since it came back so fast. I need to feel better and be better. The nausea and fatigue are affecting my daily life. This will be my 5th endo surgery.
