Do you think I'll be able to get a hysterectomy? Help.

*If this goes against the rules of this forum let me know and I'll delete. Please. Thanks.*

I have menstrual problems. They last around 3 and a half weeks and are heavy. This is when I'm off the Pill.

I've been hospitalized for them and when I was 17 in the hospital I was told I had less than half the blood I needed in my body to survive. I don't want to deal with getting an IUD and I am on the pill but it did make me bleed for a very long time. Dealing with bleeding issues with it right now still from it and I'm still on it. And my bleeding I'm supposed to have on the sugar pills can get heavy probably dangerously so after so many days.

I have OCD behavior also so having this issue with OCD behavior isn't easy.

I have a fibroid also.

I feel like the doctors are only giving me the option of IUD or some other contraceptive like the shot.

Do you think I have a case for getting a hysterectomy?
Any advice if I keep having doctors turning me down? I really would appreciate it. Thanks.

If you do not think your doctor is listening to you about what you want for you, find one who will. If you've been on a BC pill, that should be enough that BC isn't working and something else needs to happen. If you truly want a hysterectomy, express that to your doctor and if they won't listen, find someone who will. It's a long, aggravating process just trying to get what we want for our own bodies. I wouldn't allow an IUD if you know you have a fibroid, as your body will most likely reject the IUD (and I am just going based on other stories and my own experience with this).

I hope you get some relief or answers, but I'd say you're definitely a candidate for one or a solution to stop your periods entirely. Even mental health is a good enough reason in my opinion.

BCP can make fibroids grow and bleed. Since the fibroid is most likely the reason you are bleeding have you considered treating it only? UAE is a procedure that stops fibroids from growing and bleeding. Interventional Radiology has been used since the 1940’s to control excessive bleeding. It’s been used more frequently to control excessive bleeding from fibroids and it works great. My period was an absolute blood bath and after UAE, also known as embolization, they were so light and eventually stopped. I was embolized in my early 50’s. Younger women resume 4-5 day normal periods. The fibroid is the problem. My suggestion is to treat the problem and save more drastic solutions till later. Not only did my bleeding become controlled but my fibroid shrank about 90%, slowly and over time. Seek the opinion of an interventional Radiologist and stop BCP. Small fibroids will shrink to virtually nothing if embolized early enough.

I had a doctor say that's probably not the fibroid that's my issue. Based on where the fibroid is located. He said it might be hormone-related he asked me if I had any acne on my chin or hair growth. I don't. I have small tiny pimples that I seemed to start getting once I used a face product.

My mother had a hysterectomy because of fibroids.

I did mention to a doctor about something to treat the fibroid I saw online. Where are you going to like an MRI machine and it targets the fibroid but that's only in different state. I don't have income. I can't really go there. The real income I have just now recently was a stimulus check. I'm trying to get on disability.

I live with a close family member and she pays for things.

I had another doctor mention about getting the fibroid using procedure called something starting with M perhaps ?

Thank you. I saw a female doctor and she told me Insurance might not cover it unless I try an IUD and some other methods perhaps I think she might have said. She wouldn't do it to me cuz I'm young to her. (Warning)At 29 years old not wanting children and no plans to have children.(end warning)

Thanks.

If this doctor is telling you that she won't do a hysterectomy because you seem young to her, then get another doctor, and when you see her, do everything you can to ensure that you're treated as a mature, intelligent adult. A few tips for that: make sure your clothes are neat and clean, without any wrinkles, stains, holes, missing buttons, or broken zippers; make sure your hair is clean, brushed, and put up if it's long; for your mask, choose a plain neutral or a subtle print, as opposed to something like a neon orange or a bold floral; come prepared with complete details about your OCD, how long you've had the bleeding and how severe it is, and what treatments have been recommended and what were the results; be as descriptive as you can - for example, saying that you've been hospitalized on several occasions because you'd lost up to half of your blood volume can be more effective than simply saying that you're bleeding heavily. If she says that insurance won't cover a hysterectomy, then the last two points can help to get her on your side and press your case when dealing with most insurance companies, and can provide the basis for an appeal if you're turned down. Wishing you all the best for finding a doctor who will listen to your pleas for an end to this bloodbath!

Re: Do you think I'll be able to get a hysterectomy? Help.

Thank you so much. Sadly (Don't get me wrong. It's a blessing and a curse.) I look young for my age. I have gotten mistaken for 16-18 etc.
And someone told me my voice sounds young too.

I can try to dress maturely, but I still might just look like a sharply dressed teenager.

Thank you for the advice.

*sigh*

They are talking about focused ultrasound. Don’t think insurance covers. I was looking into it but was out of the question if not covered. That’s why I chose embolization. It was covered with an 85% success rate.

Went to a doctor today. She said doctors would be afraid to be sued due to my age regarding getting a hysterectomy.
