Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 31-Sep 06,2009

last night til 5am i was in horrifc pain. after the meds rom iv went away it was awful. bleeding is medium, achiness and crampy way bad today/ i was having to strain to urinate. docs office called in ibuprofren and urelle for bladder. urelle helped sooo much! i do get to take a sleeping pill. tonight. so happy about that. hot showers 7 total today is the only way to get 100% relief! no bm, i ate half a salan, sliced chicken flat bread sandwhich w/organic chips, and last night hals a flatbread sandwich, a pear and chicken and dumplings. may not b drinking enough fluid. i was up too much yesterday because the iv meds made it seem like to pain. i posted my funny story on another thread.
i kept asking the anestesiologist to make sure i was breathing, and when i woke up kept saying more meds even though they said we gave you demarol already, i was like i dont care! i am having a ruff 36 hours but know in a few weeks it will be great! i hate eating and no bm, it cant be good to put food in and nothing come out.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 31-Sep 06,2009

Had my TAH on the 31st, took cervix, kept ovaries! My uterus, bladder, abdominal muscles and fatty abdominal tissue were all adhered together and the dr found a "mass" that she didn't like and is havng biopsied. As far as recovery goes, they had me on a dilaudid (sp?) drip w/ patient controled pump and the 1st dose was NOT cutting it, so we had it increased. About 4 hrs after surgery, I felt some relief! I still haven't passed gas and I am not eating or drinking and I'm fighting a fever. Recovery is just slow-going and my dr has been absolutely wonderful, reassuring me that everyone has their own rate. I am walking, back on iv fluids, urinating on my own and taking a shower was glorious last night. I am hoping to pass gas today so I can eat something and possibly go home! Fingers crossed!!

Hi Everyone!

I had my LAVH yesterday and am doing pretty good. I'm very sore. The hardest part for me is the gas pains. I'm passing gas reguarly but it hurt as it moves through my bowel.

I'll post more in a couple of days when I can sit up longer.

Good luck everyone!

I came home yesterday. The hardest parts have been trying to pee and the feeling like I have a softball stuck in my hienie. I am taking my precocet and trying to sleep until my bladder wakes me for its waddle to the bathroom.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 31-Sep 06,2009

Hello everyone. I had my TAH BSO about 8:15 am on Aug. 31st. Surprisingly, the surgery only took 1.5 hours and I was in a regular room by 11:30 am. I asked for something for pain about 3:00 pm and was given a shot of Demerol in my IV. I didn't ask for another shot until 11:00 pm just before "bedtime". I didn't really get much good sleep that night, between the discomfort, being hooked to the IV and catheter, and them checking on me every couple of hours.

Sept. 1: The nurse came in at 6:30 am and removed my catheter and IV. They brought me some breakfast and an 800 mg Motrim about 7:30 and had me up and in the shower at 8:30 am. No rest for the weary at my hospital! LOL I was uncomfortable, but not really in any pain. I walked the halls a few times that day and didn't have any trouble eating (they already had put me on a full diet, as tolerated) I did have some gas pains, but nothing excruciating. I had a BM about 6:00 pm, which did not hurt at all.

Sept. 2: The doctor cam in about 9:30 am and said I could go home. She also remarked that my recovery seemed to be moving along at record speed. Honestly, I am pretty shocked myself, because I was really dreading the experience! I spent the day relaxing and nodding off at home, with just some regular Motrin (3 x 200 mg at a time) for discomfort. I had a few visitors and a good friend brought my son and I some dinner. About 9:15 pm I decided to take a Percocet - I wasn't really in pain, but figured it would help me sleep. It did! I didn't wake up until 6:15 the next day!

Sept. 3: (today) I feel pretty good this morning so I wanted to post about my experience thus far. I plan to just lay around and read or watch some tv today. Even though I feel pretty good I know I can't (and won't) overdo it!

I'll come back and post in a few days to let ya'll know how I am doing. I am truly blessed to be feeling this good this soon, and pray that it continues on this path.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my posts in the pre-op forum before my surgery, and thanks to everyone who kept me in their thoughts and prayers!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 31-Sep 06,2009

I had my Laproscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH) on monday at 1100 am. I was in surgery for 2 1/2 hours. They left my ovaries. The doctor said that everything they took out of me weighed 325 Kilograms because of the large fibroid i had (it was the size of a grapefruit) I slept most of monday away after surgery, and wasnt in too much pain as i had a pain pump. Tuesday they took away the pain pump and started me on oral meds. I was in some pain, but nothing too bad, i was unable to have a BM, and by the end of tuesday i was in alot of pain because of it. The gas bubbles in my stomach caused me to double over. They gave me more pain meds and i was doing pretty well. I was able to get up and walk and take a shower which felt good. Wednesday again i was in pain and struggling to have a BM, i knew i had to go but couldnt, so they gave me something in hopes that it would work. I slept most of the day away again and by 430 pm my husband was there to bring me home. When i got home, i was in so much pain i thought that i was going to scream, but after finally having a bm i was a ton better. Today, im still tired, and in some pain but nothing bad. I find that i am tired alot, and i have some bloating in my stomach. I dont really have an appetite either. I hope that everyone is doing ok with their recovery, and i will post more as time goes on.

Hey everyone

I had my TAH on Tuesday at 8am. I'm home now. The gas-x hint really really was a life saver. I can share more later, for now I need to move again.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 31-Sep 06,2009

Today has been tough. It takes every ounce of energy I have just to get to the bathroom which I have to do very often. I am finally passing some gas but I think my bladder may be spasming. I am miserable. I may have hubby bring some gasx home tonight. I have swelly belly badly. I want this part to be over with. Not sure how much more I can endure.
