Hurry up and wait!

Okay, I finally went to the doctors two weeks after my lap & D&C. Since he told my husband everything looked good after surgery and no fibroids, I figured the sonogram was right - Adenomyosis. Well that was confirmed at my appt. After doing some research during the interim I know that a hysterectomy was probably the only thing to. Well the doctor wants me to wait 6 months to see if there are any changes. I knew two years ago something was wrong when my clothes started getting tight! Now I have people asking if I'm expecting! I don't want to wait! Has anyone else gone through this? The sonogram said my uterus was15.4x6.1x7.7 and he doesn't think that is too big (and he thinks that it must be wrong.....well when I had a sonogram with my daughter, they told me she was 8lbs +/- 1 lb ==> she was 10lb 10 oz, they under estimated the last time! Hence uterine trama?!?!?!?!)

Impatient sister

PS: the D&C hasn't helped the bleeding either

Hurry up and wait!

Hi Knit,

I had adenomyosis too, along with fibroids and cysts. My doctor gave me the option of a hysterectomy or waiting 6 months to see if there were any changes. He was hoping a d & c would have helped with the bleeding. Well the d & c didn't help, so I thought I'd go ahead with the hysterectomy. Just as I was deciding this, my mom who had battled ovarian cancer for 15 years had a recurrence that spread to her brain. She could no longer live alone or drive because of the risk of a seizure. We took her into our home to care for her with hospice, and the hysterectomy went on the back burner. After her death I waited almost two years before I felt like I was emotionally ready to handle it. My periods got worse and I felt terrible all the time. I finally went through with the surgery, and couldn't be happier. The pain and general malais I always had is gone, and I have my life back.

It might be a good idea to get a second opinion to see what another doctor thinks. I don't know exactly where you stand on the issue, but if you're comfortable with your current doctor already, you might have a chat with him. Go armed with the information you know and questions you might have and see how he feels after. If you think a hysterectomy is what you want at this point, it's worth pursuing. Good luck to you!
