Upcoming abdominal hysterectomy: Any tips, suggestions, encouragement will be welcome

Hi There! I just introduced myself on the main forum.

I have been on the public waiting list for the last 10 months, and was informed the other day that my surgery will be coming up within the next 12 weeks or so.

I have come to the realization that I had better prepare myself and my family!
Hoping to get plenty of support here, as this is quite daunting :/

It will be an abdominal hysterectomy, with my ovaries intact.

Any tips, suggestions, encouragement will be welcome

I know this is such an overwhelming experience. All of your nerves, emotions and fears are very normal. Know that you are not alone, and that we are here to help and support you. We will be by your side throughout this process.

Our wonderful Hostess, Marestail, really covered everything above but I just wanted to wish you well and tell you this site has so much info and support to offer you.
In the beginning, we are all just so overwhelmed with everything. Try to learn how to navigate this site in the weeks ahead.
I had less than one month from the time of my diagnosis to my rush surgery, and this site really helped me cope with my anxiety. Knowledge of what to expect shared by others who have experienced things already, gave me the confidence I really needed.

Do not dismiss drs orders. You get one shot at recovery do it right . Pre an before going in .. Meals I froze 2 months worth . Don't try to be superwoman .
Be patient with yourself and others who might not get it .
Enjoy the downtown
Movies, reading , cross stitch or whatever you like

If you normally do the meals at your home start doubling up and freezing half. Anything to shortcut and make things easier when you come home. I even browned ground beef for various meals and froze it in 1lb. bags. Gather loose dresses or stretchy pants (I preferred yoga pants). Good luck!
