Fibroids

I have a question for any of you ladies who had your hyster because of those dreadful fibriods. I have two (at least two) one about the size of a grapefruit and the other slightly smaller. I was just wondering if I can look forward to having a flatter tummy once all is said and done? I work out daily and have lost about 30 pounds over the last year (with about 20 more to go)but my tummy still looks llike I'm about 10-12 weeks pregnant and I hate it.
Also I'm a little concerned about gaining wait and losing muscle tone during my recovery. Any thoughts or recommendations ladies?
Thanks you all are just great! I love this site!

Fibroids

Usually you can expect your tummy to be smaller after you rid yourself of large fibroids, depending on where they are located. The key is to also lose all the excess weight, which tends to collect in the abdominal area. Losing the last 20 pounds should make a big difference for you.

I was able to walk as much as I wanted after my TAH and by week 3 worked up to 3 miles at one time. If you watch your diet and walk you shouldn't gain weight (I lost several pounds ). I didn't lose any muscle town during recovery. Once I was cleared for all activity I went back to more strenuous workouts than walking. You can then do abdominal "crunch" exercises which will really help. I did this and did get a totally flat tummy back at age 43. I was so glad I could give up wearing jumpers!

Best wishes!

Fibroids

Hi,

I had a "measly" size of a baseball with several of it's healthy and growing "friends." I looked like I was three months pregnant too.

It's been almost six weeks since surgery and my tummy looks much smaller.

I've been trying to walk about a half hour every day (I was used to 1 hr to 1.5 hrs of exercise before the surgery - talk about withdrawal.) Watching your diet is definitely a must during this recovery period.

Take care of yourself!

Fibroids

I just saw my physical therapist today. I started to see her last year because I was losing muscle tone in my abdominal muscles. Now that I know I have a large fibroid, she said my posture problems and loss muscle tone are more then likely from the way my body has compensated for the growth on my internal organs. She reassured me that I could improve my stomach muscles after the surgery.

In anticapation of abdominal surgery, I have started to lose weight. Ten pounds so far. My physical therapist also recommended some yoga moves, especially one called "the bridge." She said that it helps improve tone and flexability before and after the surgery. I believe being in my best physical shape possible will help me recover. I will also make an appointment with my physical therapist after my surgery when I am cleared by my MD. We are going to re-evaluate my posture and strengthening needs.

Having a plan is helping me mentally to prepare for surgery (3/18). I hope it helps you, too.
