new here need some advice

Hi my name is Tara, Im almost 24 (next month) and need someone to talk to. I am talking to my dr tomorrow about having a hysterectomy done. I have been suffering since age 17 with heavy bleeding, severe pain, fevers and vomiting during my cycles. I have endometriosis, adenomysosis, and PCOS. I had to have my left ovary surgically removed because a large cyst made it twist. Every month my right ovary is producing large cysts and it is also trying to remove itself as well. I have tried everything out there and nothing has helped. I have come to terms with the all the complications and results of hysterectomy and just want my life back. I cant work or go out hardly and its all because of these problems. I am so depressed because I want to do so much and never had that chance. Several drs have told me to have hysterectomy done but I am nervous that this dr I see tomorrow will turn me away because my age. Also I am already going through pre-menopause and have hot flashes already so no surprises there and its hard to have those with PMS symptoms! I just feel really alone right now too because I am also going through a divorce. If anyone would like to talk about their experience please write me back! Thank you for listening.

Hi daisi23

I am really sorry to hear you are going through all this. I have had my hyst done almost 3 years ago (I have no ovaries or uterus).

Have you been to more than one doctor to get alternative opinions about possible hormone treatment. I have been through the endo thing with pain and bleeding since I was 13 years old and 10 operations to remove cysts and scarring.

Unfortunately the other side after a hyst is not all great either and sometimes I would rather have put up with what I had. I am now suffering depression, fatigue and sexual dysfunction and just a general loss of well being.

I am sure that is not what you wanted to hear, and I just wanted to make you aware that it is really important to realise you may now come out of this with no problems at all.

If you want to talk let me know.

Hi Tara

I am so sorry that you have to make this decision at such a young age. I am old enough to be your mom and your post brought me to tears. I know this is a life changing decision, do plenty of research. There have been alot of posts from sisters with problems like yours. You might want to get a second opinion also. Good luck to you and always know you are not alone.

Hugs

Thank you for answering my post! Yesterday my dr did decide that since my endo has come back and my remaining ovary keeps twisting and we have exhausted all my options he recommended hysterectomy. My hysterectomy is scheduled for jan 12 so I am glad he listened to me now we just have to wait and see if insurance will accept and it may not considering my age. Thanks for listening!

HI Tara to Hystersisters

I'm so sorry that you have had to go through so much at such a young age

It sounds like you have made your decision to try and improve the quality of life that you have. I just wanted to recommend reading through our resource section which you will find at the top left side of any page. Here is one that specifically deals with Endometriosis/ Adenomyosis

There are alot of different factors to consider when a woman has a hysterectomy for endometriosis. There are more precautions to take to ensure that the endo is completely gone after the surgery so that the surgery is a success. There are women who have had a hysterectomy and still suffer from the pain of endo each month.

Please read the articles and discuss with your doctor what type of hysterectomy you will be having and if your other ovary will be removed and also it is a good time to discuss if your doctor is planning on starting you on HRT or making you wait due to the endo.

In my opinion it is very important to have as much information as possible before your surgery so that you have a good idea of what to expect before and after your hysterectomy.

We have a pre-op forum that you might enjoy visiting and talking with the other ladies who are waiting for their visit to the castle. You will find it here. Pre-op

Good luck with everything and please keep us posted on how you are doing.
