menopause after TVH (ovaries remain)

May be a really silly question but... How will I know I am in menopause if I don't have bleeding? I still have my ovarvies. I had little to no symptoms prior to TVH and still had VERY regular periods.
I know my gyn said I didn't really need to see him anymore (had post-op visit 2 weeks after TVH). Just have routine mammograms and routine health care. No paps needed (no cervix). So I forgot to ask about menopausal symptoms, etc. I am not worried about any of this just curious.

By the way I am almost 6 wks post-op and doing great!! No problems! Going to see a new primary care doc. He is family and sports meds trained. I am looking to really improve my health before my 50th birthday (10/06), so I figured this would be a good place to start!! Now that I won't have to deal with ALL the miserable symptoms I had, just waiting for my anemia to resolve!!

Hi felicita48,

There are no silly questions here. You ask a very good one really.
I'm kind of in your same situation, just waiting for something to strike me as menopausal.
As women, we are all so very different. Some sail through menopause with little or no symptoms, but it is good to know what you are looking for so you can address it as it happens.

As our bodies start producing less estrogen there are a number of symptoms that can occur. It seems like the big one is hot flashes, but there are a lot of others, like memory problems or brain fog and insomnia.
Here is a link that gives a great list of what to look for if you have too much or too little estrogen-

This will help give you some things to watch for.

I wish you well on your journey to better health. I think that big 50th is a great time to do that. I also had the anemia and when I finally got the blood loss out of the way, my blood levels went back up very quickly. Keep up the good work. I hope everything continues to go well for you.

's, Rita
