I too need to plan. I have a dry-erase board calendar that hangs on the wall. I'm headed to the castle in a week. My surgery date is on the calendar. My 16y/o was asked to clear her afterschool schedule to be available for whatever. She cooks, drives, ect.
My church has offered and is scheduled to deliver supper 2x a week. If you have 5 kiddos, even a 4 yr old can have a 'duty' as a go - getter for mommy ie. pillow, tissue, ect. Scheduling them as 'special helpers' ahead of time can give them a sense of control at a time when mommy really needs them. You'd be surprised how they can step up to the plate. Things won't be done perfectly, but at this point, they don't need to be! (This is from experience - my leg was in a non-walking cast with a 2mo old, 5 and 7yr old)
