Hysterectomy scheduled September 16

Hello ladies, I am 37 and am scheduled for a hysterectomy via da Vinci robot (leaving my ovaries only). I had five surgeries prior for fibroids, one c-section, two D&Cs, been on lupron a few times. My periods last 24 days at times. I pass huge clots, bad cramps and back pain. Ugh. I'm so nervous yet I know this is the best solution for me. Any words of advice?

Re: Hysterectomy scheduled September 16

I too am scheduled for the 16th. I am trying to focus on recovery. Reminding myself that even though i don't do well after anesthesia and "coming back to life" after that I will do better bc I won't have a baby to care for this time and I won't be cut wide open. More rest and hoping to feel great.

Hi Christina Di to HysterSisters!

I am glad you found this site.

Having a hysterectomy is such an overwhelming experience. All of your emotions, fears, nerves and feelings are very normal. I do not think any of us wanted this surgery, but it was the best solution given our circumstances. You may want to read through our pre-op page as a starting point.

Having a hysterectomy is MAJOR SURGERY. Recovery will take time. You need to think in terms of weeks and not days. You will need help with cooking, cleaning, dishes, laundry, shopping, driving, etc. You will need to take time off work. How long depends on how quick you recover as well as your job duties. Again, think weeks and not days.

Here are 10 Tips for Preparing for Your Hysterectomy. Be sure to read the related articles.

What I found most helpful:
-Meals in the freezer that you can just pop in the microwave
-Easy foods for breakfasts and lunches
-Loose fitting clothes (I spent 12 weeks in sweats and old shorts)
-Prepare a recovery corner with pillows and blankets
-Small pillow to hold against your tummy for coughs and sneezes.

Above all, know that you are not alone in this. We are here for you.

Hi,
