Dear Gals,
I'm working on additional info for the pull down menus for visiting friends and family who may want to learn better how to take care of you during this time of pre-op and post op care.

I will compile your answers/posts into a few new catagories on the website.....so PLEASE add to this!

Can you add your ideas to this post in these catagories?

1....How can your caretaker help with snacks and food? What are some recipe ideas or snack ideas that you had or would have liked to see during your recovery?

2....How can your caretaker show you that they care?

3....How can they shop for you?

4...How can your caretaker help you during pre-op time while you are waiting for surgery (and during the pre-op visit?)

5....Anything in particular you would recommend for grins and giggles?

6....List books that you enjoyed or plan on reading during your recovery just for pleasure.

Thanks gals!

O.K. let's see if I can think of anything........

For #2 what was really nice was just the little things
that my sister thought to bring me when I was still even in the hospital - even though I wasn't the best company it was great of her to come and she brought both of her daughters and fun stuff to make the time pass quicker: rag mags, word searches, candy for when I finally felt like eating Also, just calling to see if I needed anything. Even though I "coached" DH on how to take care of me before he's kind of thick skulled so it was nice of others to think of me. Gift certificates for dinners while I was still under the weather were great Many co-workers sent those to me.
It may be cliche but flowers are a nice touch I started to get depressed when my room mate got all of these flowers and I got one

#3 For shopping I wrote down what everyone in the family liked so that it made it easier. I also wasn't afraid to ask for certain things.

#4 was SO important! I didn't realize it until I was at the hospital. I saw my mother an hour before we checked in and even though she said she was going to run some errands she was there by the time I had my i.v. in She sat with me and we watched dumb game shows while DH read a book If she hadn't been there just for support I would have gone crazy

Well, that's it for now. Good luck Kathy!
